In Italy my relatives have been feeding their dogs for many years only pasta and leftovers, their dogs were always healthy and died at 14. Many friends in Italy as well treat their dogs of pasta and left overs, in fact in ancient times there was no packaged dog food and dogs were healthier than ever. Now dogs are delicate and often sick, can it be that dog food companies want to make us feel that dog food is essential?

It says "Your dog is constantly barking all day long. It's really annoying the whole neighborhood. Please do something about it." My dog is a 2 1/2 yr old German shepherd with separation anxiety. I know he barks, but if I left him in the house, he'd tear the whole place to pieces. He is a watchdog, and I'm not going to start crate training him now. My husband and I both work full time, and the dog is outside from 8am-4pm every weekday, but when we get home, he's in the house with us all the time. What is the worst case scenario of what they can do, legally? I should add, the losers who are complaining are unemployed druggies who set their own house on fire back in May, and sleep all day long, then sit on their patio all night with their derelict friends, smoking dope and laughing like retards. Should I worry? What can I do?

I want to adopt a rescue dog and they have forms that fall under the "catch 22" category. You can't have one of their dogs UNLESS you've owned a dog before! What if you're a first timer?

I have started dog-sitting for a friend who recently got a 2-year old male Vizsla from the pound. It is probably not a pure-bred, but the appearance and personality traits are dead-on.

The dog is very friendly and generally well-behaved when I am at home with it, but if I leave the house (work, store, etc) I usually come back to find things knocked over or pulled off counters and tables. I believe the dog is being disruptive to get attention and in protest of being left alone (it is a bit clingy - common for Vizslas).

I don't have much experience with Vizslas, but several websites mention that they are very sensitive dogs (emotionally) that do best with positive re-enforecement while strong negative punishments can actually make the situation worse (see link below).

My question is how do you make the dog know that misbehaving when left alone is not OK?

She does not cry when walking or going downs stairs. She also cries when I ask her to sit up and beg. She won't, not normal for her. Now when she goes down stairs she won't even try to go back up, she just looks at me like, "who are you kidding mom"!

I'm making a video to show that rescued dogs make great pets. I've already received some pictures and stories, but I want more! I know there are lots of rescued dogs that have saved lives, either by fighting off bears or by wagging tails at the right time.

Please tell me your story!

I have a 5 year old American Bulldog/Pitbull mix. He is deaf so he sleeps ALL day! My husband wants to get another dog so that he has a friend to play with and stay active. I really do not want the responsibility of new puppy right now. I am thinking about putting our dog in "doggy daycare" but it is quite expensive (around $16/day). I think 1-2x a week might be OK. I am just not sure though if Doggy Daycare is actually worth it. Does anyone know?

I was with my mum and cousin at my cousins house. My mum and my cousin (taryn) went out to the post office and I stayed in. The door must have swung open while they were in the shop so i went after them i realized the dog had shot across the road and barking at another dog through the gate. I went and got my mum and taryn out of the shop. Taryn start shouting CHARLIE and i turned around and started walking across the kurb it narrowly missed a car but the next one hit him full on we were all screaming it was so scary. The dog jumped straight up and ran into the house with only a scratch on its cheek. But it normally sits on the sofa and its back legs are shuffling and it ws hard for him to get onto the sofa also it usually legs it up the stairs but it took him about a minute to get up them. Im really worried and vets here. By the way the number plate off the car was halfway down the street.

This may seem like a stupid question to some of the yahoo radicals out there. I'm curious, what qualifies a person as a "back yard breeder?" Does having one litter of pups qualify you as a byb?

Don't be scared to voice your opinion...yeah right, as if you wouldn't.

Because my dog always pees or poos in the training pad. (pad where dogs pee).
But it sort of smells and my friends' dogs are trained to scratch the door. I want to know how to.

Ok, please don't tell me I am lazy.

I want to know if I can teach my 3 year old beagle to pe e in the bathtub (if so, how can I?) under special circumstances:

1.i have a bad fever, and my ears hurt

2.it is freezing and snowing outside and i just took him for a spin around the block, and when i walked past the spot he first urinated it was near frozen.

3. i live on upper floor of a walk-up building in a high density urban city.

4. i won't be walking to the park because of bad weather so he will have to be on pavement the whole time anyway.

how can i teach my dog how to do this and only resort to this under these circumstances because it is gross and weird?

I have an 16 mo. old male neutered YorkiePoo, with 2 seperate issues.
1. We have a finished basement and ANY time he is down there,he will mark the carpet. He never ever goes potty upstairs and always goes to the door when he needs to go out. We have just stopped allowing him down there. I would like to let him down there, but don't see how to stop his marking.
2. Also, we went to my sister's house (she has a male dog) and the first thing my dog did was went to the dining room table and marked the leg of the table! Why did he do this inside?....and how can we prevent this at her house, or anywhere else indoors in the future? I am scared to take him anywhere else indoors because I don't want him peeing!! Please offer any rational advice.
Thank you!
P.S. I also have a 9 yr. old spayed female Shihtzu who we've had since she was a baby. My Yorkie Poo is very submissive to her, as she let it be known when we got him that she was Queen Bee. (didn't know if this had anything do with it)

Would you consider this to be a 'mass producer'? Would you ever buy a dog from a place like this? Is anyone else getting that "puppy mill" vibe?

Should my 8lb dog still take Frontline and Heartgard even in the Chicago winter months? I live in the middle of the downtown city so he is rarely in a grassy area. Can we stop the meds until winter has ended. If so, when would we start up again?

So, I adopted a black lab from a nearby animal shelter a little over a month ago and come to find out when I went in to her looked at to be spayed a week ago, she is pregnant. I called the animal shelter and they said that she must have gotten pregnant before they had her. I have talked to the vet and they gave me a sheet with information, and I have already gotten her one of those wooden type things so she can begin to nest, but I still need more information, as much as I can get. I have 3 other dogs but I have never had a dog thats had puppies, I have many other people saying they are willing to help, but any tips or websites anyone knows of would be a huge help for me! The vet sayd she is due in about 20 days, she is guessed to be about 9 months old so she is very young. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
