I have a 3 month old AKC registered lab that I am going to be showing in conformation. She meets the standards to show and has a great temperment for it. I have been feeding her Eukanuba but have recently heard many bad things about it. I am looking for a food that will provide her with lots of nutrition and help her coat, teeth, growth, etc. for conformation. Any ideas of a good, healthy brand?? Also, If you have any tips on things I need to do or have to raise a show, please let me know. Thanks!!!!!

I would first suggest you find a lab breed club in your area. Join and have them guide you. Also your breeder may point you in several good directions.
As far as food goes. Well there have been many debates on this. I feed all my dogs Canidae and they are beautiful in their conformation and their coats are very beautiful also. It not only meets my expectations for them but exceeds it. You may just want to look at their web site for more information. It is formulated for pups through adulthood.
I have 2 of my pups on it now and they are developing beautifully! Hope this helps.

go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com to research good brands. Anything 4 stars and up or so is really an excellent food. You'll have to experiment and see which is best for your dog though, as all dogs respond differently to different foods. For your dog, first, did you buy the dog as a show prospect? If you didn't she probably won't show well. I would reccomend getting in contact with your local kennel club. They ussually offer classes in conformation, as well as providing mentorship for people new to the sport. You can also check your state labrador retriever club and see if any memebers live near you, or contact your dogs breeder. When I was interested in show dogs I contacted a Labrador breeder near me and he has been great about helping me learn how to handle dogs and the intricasies of the standard. They can also help you evaluate your dog as he grows. Through the kennel club and classes I also met exhibitors of all different breeds who have been able to give me sound advice. If you are a young person (under 18) you7 can still show your dog in junior handling, which judges how YOU handle the dog, not how closely the dog matches the standard. This is a good step from any young person, you don't need a dog that is to standard, it just must be registered, and you learn alot about handling dogs to show them to thier best advantage. I would highly suggest looking for a mentor in your local area- even if only for someone to "talk lab" to every now and then! :) Good luck. -Neb

At this point, the pup is show "potential". When you have her evaluated by the breeder or another breeder or show person in a few months, then you know if she does meet the standard. Pups can change a LOT between now and then and showing Labs is QUITE competitive!!!!! You will find most show have 20-40 entered!!!! Unless the dog is REALLY good, it is going to cost a lot to finish. When you get the pup evaluated, you can decide, based on the quality, if you should owner-handle, or get a handler....which can save you money in the long run!
No food will change a mediocre dog into a superb one.

Get to show handling classes SOON...for you and her!!

One of the best food you can buy is Canidae without a doubt. Eukanuba I'm sorry to say is not a good food. Look at the label. Go to Canidae.com to find out where you can get it. My dogs love the taste! And I have picky dogs to be sure. As far as AKC info, sorry, I'm not into showing. I like watching shows though. :P

merricks
kirkland brand from costco 9if price is a problem this is a good food. $20.00 for a 40lbs bag of food.)

Dont feed anything with crap like by products, lots of corns or wheats are just fillers and do nothing for nutrition.
