I adopted a dog from a shelter that rescued dogs from a Virginia puppy mill and she still has not pooped or peepee'd outside. I have had her for almost three weeks. I have stood outside for hours trying to be patient with her. As soon as we walk inside she does her business on the newspaper. She is crated when we are not home and is now going in her own crate. I am really disappointed that I cannot get her to go outside. I have even put vinegar around my house to try to keep her from going in the house. Does anyone know why she may be doing this and how I can get her to go outside?

try to map out a plan.
1. your dog eliminates on the paper - have u tried take the paper outside? if that works then slowly make the paper smaller and smaller, and eventually removing it.

2. when u take her outside, are you walking her? after she eats, put her on a leash and walk her around the neighborhood, this usually does the trick.

3. I like the crate training part - all my dogs are crate trained. the way i trained my dogs, i crate them at night, the moment i take them out, i either take the entire crate with him (if he's small enough) or i pick him up and put him outside. do not let the dog back in until they've done it's business - if it;s taking too long i suggest the walk once again.

4. this may take some time since she's always pooped inside at the puppy mill i believe, however, it is not a lost hope. As the dog is starting to transition to the paper outside you;ll also want to start removing the paper from inside the house - try putting it somewhere close to the door when you put the paper outside, then slowly move it further.

good luck.

She is used to the paper. I got 2 small dogs at the beginning of winter and made the mistake of puppy-pad training them so they wouldn't have to go outside and that made it tough come spring time. Move the paper toward the door and then outside and into the grass. Especially if you can move a paper or towel with her urine on it into the yard it should work.

She is a puppy mill dog, they do not get trained to do ANYTHING at all. I would use the umbelicul cord method with her. ataching a leash to her and then attach the leash to you so she is never out of site. 3 weeks isnt that long, and puppies can take months to leaarn to go outdoors. how old is the dog? What breed(s) is it?

Maybe she doesn't like winter. You might have to force her to stay outside until she does it.
