For all the ignorant people out there who believe that this is a cruel sport your ignorance surprises me. The whippets natural instinct is to chase things. My whippet is a family member and always will be i would just like to know where he can express his talent and have fun at the same time.

The first 2 answeres have OBVIOUSLY NO CLUE about Whippets, Greyhounds or how these dogs LOVE to race. Nor do they understand that these breed registry clubs (in USA) hold non-parimutual racing competitions for their dogs to compete in instead of just regular dog shows. These same uneducated fools probably think watching Jack Russels compete in agility and racing is "cute".

I see answerer #3 has never spent 5 minutes learning about the whippet either. SO SAD. Do you people always give statements about stuff you don't even understand? Whippet coursing clubs MEET at a designated raceway, and do not kennel their dogs in crates at a pari mutual track. DUH! How many times have you guys actually seen a whippet, much less one racing?

To answer your actual ? no, but I am sure there are. Google it and good luck!

Ignorance is astonising isn't it -- wait soon someone with just enough knowlage to be dangeous will recomend lure coursing instead (longer more tiring runs, with the increased strain caused by the turns)
For all the idiots out there -you CAN'T MAKE a dog run, period- they think its the most fun you can have. One of my dogs when young would finish & run back & try to get back in the start box to run again!
The amature sport is centered on family pets (and has been so for 100 yrs) most go home & sleep on the owners bed- I know the top runners in history with two different racing orginisations - they've both met me at the front door of their owners houses with a squeaky in their mouths - one scared me to death popping out from under a blanket on the sofa when I din't know he was there.
In the US anyway if your dog does well you can go home with a 99 cent squeak toy - if they don't do well you still might win a squeak toy (the Vallient effort award is usually the second biggest prize and it goes to the LAST place dog) Heck of a reason for abuse hugh?
sigh good luck 'fraid I can give you only US clubs..

No and i hope there isn't any. Racing is a cruel sport which no dog or horse should have to compete in. I work in some kennels which are right near to a dog racing track, after the dogs have gotten to old they are simply just thrown out and have to look for new homes.

Wow you opened a can of whoop *** on here, just so you know!! Racing dogs is VERY cruel! How would you like to be pinned up in a crate not even big enough for you to stand in, and then run run run your butt off and not get anything for it, be beat and verbally abused and nearly starved to death??!! When a dog loses a race a few times in a row that dog is just disposed of!! Very Very wrong thing to do!!! Racing is such a sad thing.

No,m I think it is cruel to race dogs...they are just thrown away when they get to a certain age and cannot race any longer.
