my dogs killed a raccoon and bite it. im not sure if they can get rabies this way or not. HELP!!!

He could, if the raccoon was rabid. You could have the raccoon tested, but if that's not an option, you should take your dog to the vet. They will probably be able to put him on preventative medicine.

Raccoons are the #1 Rabies Carrier.

I suggest you immediately get the raccoon, call you local health department and get the raccoon rabies tested. Luckily it is already dead, they will need to test the brain

There is no cure for rabies or preventative medications, rabies vaccines are not 100% either

Well, It's possible that the coon had rabies. You need to take the raccoon ( if you still have it) into your vet so they can examine it! If it did have rabies then your dog will need a rabies shot but if not then he is fine!

Unless it had distemper then he'll need a distemper shot!

yes is the coon had rabbies...coons are the #1 carrier of the disease...my friend trapped 13 this year that had it (hes a coon hunter and breeds coon hounds) and i live in Tennessee my dads friend caught 35 in Summer and Fall that had rabbies and opossoms carry it too!
