I've been reading about the benefits of vinegar in dog's drinking water. I'd love to hear from someone else who does this. What are your reasons for doing it and how much would I use per gallon of water? Any risks associated with using it? If age/weight is relevant, I have a 40 lb adult beagle/retreiver mix and a 23 lb Australian Shepherd puppy.
Thanks so much for any info!

Please don't be judgmental. I'm really trying to be a responsible pet owner and treat my pets well. I feel as though we feed a good food, Canidae, and they get regular vet checkups. I discovered the idea of apple cider vinegar a few wks ago when my pup was diagnosed with a UTI. When I searched UTI's in dogs on the Net, I found info about apple cider vinegar in the water can help keep the urinary tract healthy, among it's many other benefits.

You should put in about 1tsp per bowl of water. If it seems strong or the dogs resist, back it off just a little.
I give it because it helps boost the immune system, and all the other benefits. I have never found any risks at all, I have been giving it to my dog for years.

You were told nonsense I'm afraid - fleas will laugh at this old fashioned and useless method. Vinegar doesn't kill fleas any more than garlic or salt. If you have a flea problem, get a proper treatment from a vets, because vets are the only people allowed to stock the stuff that actually works - with the exception of Frontline, which is now available in some pet shops. All other store-bought flea treatment is as useless as vinegar I'm afraid. Get some Frontline, or Revolution, Advantage or Advocate. They work and are safe. Chalice

Some dogs will not drink vinegar water. Make sure they have alternative bowl of fresh water so they don't get dehydrated. I add it only once in a while or when needed. It has many benefits but don't overdo it.

It's apple cider vinigar and 6 teaspoons is too much for a gallon of water. I'd do 2 to 3 only.

I'm doing basic obedience right now. My trainer hasn't once handled my dog. He has shown me how to handle my dog by using his own dog but that's about it. The reasoning is that I need to learn how to do these basic corrections and what not myself. Learn more https://tinyurl.im/QG0X5
I have never considered sending my dog away for training. I guess I haven't found that much of a problem with him to even think about it.
Again, it may also have to do with the level of training you are looking for etc. No idea lol. I'm not a trainer. I think a first time dog owner needs to learn simple commands and how to handle their dog themselves as well.

It was recommended to me by a natural healer and herbalist that owns a canine health boutique to give my older dog with arthritis organic, locally made apple vinager for his inflamation. And guess what! She sold it right there in her store! My husband actually bought some, much to my scepticism.
We have been giving it to him when he is really stiff and sore, but we mix a teaspoon in with his suppliment gravy to help kill the flavor. It is not his favorite, and i don't think i could put it in his water... ewwwww.
I really can not tell you if it is doing any good, but it does not seem to hurt every now and again. I would not recomend it on a daily basis.
My advise is to do more research...

A natural way for dogs to communicate is to bark at things they find or see, usually which are interesting or a threat to them. If you have a dog that barks too much, then you want to find a way to calm down the instinct by offering the best dog training. While you want to make sure your dog can express themselves sometimes by barking, you also want to focus on not letting the noise become a burden. Following are some of the dog training tips that help your dog to stop barking while establishing basic obedience rules for the home.
Start young. If you have an older dog that hasn't been trained to stop barking, it is difficult to stop. You want to make sure that you train puppies not to bark if they are doing it too much. The younger you start training them, the easier it will be for them to understand the dog training commands.
Understand what barking is for. Barks from a dog are used for several reasons. You want to make sure you understand why they bark and whether this can be prevented. Some common reasons for barking are from the dog being bored or lonely. If there are distractions that the dog feels are a threat, they may also bark. You can prevent dogs from barking by giving them extra attention or by getting another pet.
Reward them when they stop. Just like other types of obedience training, you can easily stop your dog from barking by showing them when to be quiet. This is known as one of the best dog training methods. Dog training commands and words such as saying quiet, with a voice that has a low tone, will easily stop your dog from barking. Once they do stop, you can reward them by telling them good in a higher tone and by giving them a treat. However, you need to do this instantly after they stop so they understand what the reward is for.
Anti bark collars. If your dog instinctively keeps barking at everything, then you can get a collar for extra training. When the dog barks, a stimulus or scent is set off which causes slight discomfort for the dog. If you aren't around and your dog starts barking, it will immediately stop them.
Know when to train. You want to make sure you don't leave your dog in a position where they can't express themselves. Even if you have neighbors who don't like the dog barking, there are certain times where they should be able to speak. Knowing when to apply commands and training and when to let them bark helps them to feel comfortable while allowing you to apply limitations.
The ability to offer the best dog training is one that is reliant on consistency and understanding your dog. If you have a pet that naturally wants to bark, then finding a way to monitor the behavior is the best step to take. Following these dog training tips can help you to establish better behavior with your dog while allowing them to express themselves at the right time.

As a professional dog trainer for over 16 years, I have to tell you my strong opinion that you need these group classes for obedience training. http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?2lPx
Other pet warehouses are there to get you to buy their products and hang around their strore. And their trainers are their employees...never forget they have an agenda. Most of the trainers have very little education--if they had actual training and skills they wouldn't be there making just over minimum wage--trust me on this. But even if they did have experience and talent...a group setting is a terrible place for learning to take place. It's distraction training and it is the LAST phase of training not the first. You wouldn't have your child try to do their homework in a toy store, would you? Of course not...the level of distraction would be too high! It's the same with dogs. Having said that, these classes can be an excellent way to socialize dogs...but not to train them. And while they appear to be cheaper than a professional trainer...you have to attend many more sessions to get the same results because of the poor learning environment--so you wind up spending MORE money for less training than you would with a professional. Save your money and go to someone who actually knows how to train dogs. OR, read books and try to train your dog yourself. There is nothing they train at a Petsmart or Petco that you can't do yourself with a couple of hours of reading.
