Yes, it's acidic and can irritate and burn your dogs' paws. I'd buy some booties when you go for a walk.

The salt can hurt his feet. It'll dry his pads and cause irritation when walked on. It can also make him sick if he eats any of it while he's licking his paws.
There is an environmentally friendly version of "salt" that is safe for not only pets but all animals. I can't remember the name of it now, but a lot of zoo's use it, and it works wonders on ice. Check with a local pet or feed store.

I had this problem living in nyc. I found the best way to negate
the effect is to use a baby wipe to wipe the salt off the paws.
Paw boots work well too.
Liquid Ice melt that is eco friendly does not harm paws.

salt dries out your skin, imagine it on a dog's paws - which they then lick and injest - not good at all! You can buy pet friendly ice melter, just read the packages. And if you take your dog for a walk, either clean their paws off very well when you get home or if they'll tolerate them, put booties on them.

Yes..it can burn the pads of his feet and if your dog licks his paws, that's not good for him either. Always wipe his paws off if he runs where the salt is, or try to keep him off those areas where you use the salt if possible.

It can dry out the paw pads, but you can get pet safe salt, as well as paw guard, which is a lotion that will help restore moisture and protect the dog's paws.

It is toxic, and it is very drying to their paw pads. You should wipe their feet clean when you walk your dog through salt. Of course avoid it if at all possible.
