It's a show of dominance and has nothing to do with her being spayed or not.

If you are considering buying the puppy that tried this, I would consider another pup. If it's showing signs of dominance at a very young age, you could be looking at a difficult dog when it get's older, as well as creating stress for your Lab.

This is instinctual behavior, but CAN still be trained out of the animal. When you catch him, show your displeasure by whatever negative reinforcement technique you employ for training situations. you will have to be vigilant about this however. is is NEVER cute, funny, or acceptable. With enough reinforcement that this is undesired behavior, it should get to a point that the dog simply will not do it, or a simple look or sound will be enough to get him to stop. More info would be helpful...age of the boxer, etc....

The female usually will assert dominance naturally over the male, so I'd assume that she will put him in his place ... non?

Is the boxer neutered?
