We have a Chihuahua and this guy had told us that he is a Hammerhead Chihuahua because he is black and has a white "mask" around his eyes like a bindit. My parents wanted me too look a hammerhead chihuahua up but there is nothing when I research it. Is there such a thing as a hammerhead Chihuahua?

People not are using off the wall names for chi's that are cross breed, mutts, inbreeding, or them breeding the female so much there are acutally defects in pups. Sadly because of the high demand for chi's nowadays, the breed is getting diluted with these physical defects. Hence breeders giving them off-the-wall names to unsuspecting buyers and them jacking up the prices as well. As a personal dog breeder, there is no such thing as a hammerhead chi, the breeder used it, because of a defect, common or not common. Make sure that next time you really research the breeder, I cannot stress how important this is. Because if a dog has defects, you may end up paying more out of pocket than anticapated in vet bills, also a reason why you wouldn't want to buy from a pet store as well. The females tend to be breeded over and over and over again with no breaks that her offspring tend to have problems later in life. Good Luck!

NO there is no such thing as a hammerhead Chihuahua. There is a deer type Chihuahua. A deer type Chihuahua is bigger than that of the standard breed. These deer type don't have an apple head as the standard breed states it should. Deer type have longer legs and tend to be more than 7lbs.

As far as being referred to the colors of the coat I've never heard "hammerhead"as one of the colors.

Sorry, but the answer is no. It sounds like a gimmick like the term "teacup" chihuahua which once again, there is no such thing. Best place to look up terminology relevant to the breed is on akc.org.

It might be a regional name or something, but it is definitely NOT an official breed or species or type of dog/chihuahua. Odds are the guy just made it up. If he is the one that sold you the dog, I'd beware! If he was not a legitimate breeder, he may have given you a dog prone to serious medical dysfunction. Talk to your vet about it, just in case.

The term "hammer head" in the case of pets is refering to a specific design on their heads. I have a Bengal, Pug Jack Russel mix with a "hammer head". Any "masked" facial coat on a dog or cat is called a hammer head. Hope that helps!

maybe its some sort of breeder or dog owner terms or maybe just a code to some dog owners to familiarize with the markings of the dogs? because sometime you cant see the dog and they have to have a code to just give a slight picture of what the dog looks like:) its just a guess...

No. You bought your dog from a scummy back yard breeder who fed you lies.
