She must've weighed at least 50 lbs and had hip dysplasia (AT AGE 2)... but did she miss out on the giant gene or something? She looked like a Newf, only smaller. I was SURE she was a puppy.

My dog is a poodle with curly hair and he tends to get matted fur and knots in his fur on his rear end. Are there any home remedies or anything to get rid of them? I heard baby oil takes them out?

We have a one year old Boarder Collie and a new kitten, both the kittens litter box and food dish are in our room. It seems every chance we aren't watching the dog, she goes right into the room, eats every bite of the kittens food, then digs in the litter box for desert. Not only is this annoying and disgusting but she gets litter and cat poop everywhere on the carpet. What can I do? She knows she's not supposed to do it and wouldn't dare do it in our presence, but thinks she can get away with it if no one sees.

Each time she does it I've spanked her, told her no, and put her in her kennel, but this doesn't seem to be enough to get the message. Please tell me what I can do to correct my mistake.

I have always heard that it is dangerous to do so, because the mother will be too over protective and she might bite you. True? Not true?

my poor doggy wont eat! we wormed her and shes up to date on shots but she wont get any fatter. shes a small beagle mix. does anybody know whats wrong?shes my baby and i dont want to lose her. oh, she also wont use her one of her back legs. i mean you can touch it a bend it and it doesnt hurt her but she just wont walk on it. a few years ago she was bitten by a tick that gave her a disease and we almost lost her.on top of that it gave her arthritis. AND our mean doggy attacked her and damaged an organ i cant remember what it was.does this have anything to do with this mystery problem.?

I surprisingly worked with dogs for a long time and knew a lot about feeding etc.
I have a basset/daschund/lab mix. Hes about 33 lbs.
Hes 12 years old and we feed him once a day, 2 cups of dry food and 1 package of the Moist & Meaty stuff.
Is that okay?
Everyone says hes old and we should feed him, but I dont want him to get too fat with his little tiny legs haha.

Later on, I want to show my Shih Tzu, she's far from ready now, I've been researching her standards, though and they said that the Shih Tzu must be no less than 9lbs and no more than 16 lbs.

My Shih Tzu is 10 months old, and 6 lbs. The vet said that this would be the biggest she would ever grow. The vet said for her size, that's what she's supposed to weigh.

Does this mean that I cannot show her?

What age do you think I should start obedience training my pup [sit, lay down, stay, come]? I've already started "manners" [no bite, no jump, etc.].

And how do you suggest to train a puppy not to nip. I have been saying no bite whenever she nips at me or whoever else. She seems to be pretty much ignoring it. I've also tried yelping, it works sometimes. And what should I do after? Ignore her?

We are having a party and my family is not too fond of dogs. All of the local kennels are closed, and she gets hyper when company arrives. What should I do to calm her down or keep her?

Why do people get offended when you ask questions meant to get people to think? Why would people file a violation when you asking about tubing & AI & MATCHING?" Why is the subject of selective breeding and culling a litter or a part of a litter such taboo?
Why would puppymiller and BYB's take offense to being called out for what they are?
And really, what would be the issue with asking, "Which end bites???" When you are just trying to make a point about how little people seem to know about dogs?

Anyone want to fill me in?

Both our dogs are wearing e-collars following their spay/neuter surgeries. Our girl, who already has good ear position, does not seem to be affected.

Our boy has prick ears and we had given up on gluing some time ago (couldn't get it right ourselves and couldn't find a groomer who even knew what I was talking about). Since wearing the e-collar, one of his ears is now tipping significantly. Not just to the correct position, but a more sideways flop. The other ear seems to be "softening" a bit at the tip.

Oh, and this may not be related but our boy also had his last two deciduous teeth removed at the same time.

Is this likely to be permanent? They'll be wearing the collars for another 4 days, just to be safe.

Or at least soothe it.

Plllleeeease, dog watching and he's whining his butt of.
He's on a pillow bed, covered with blanket, pillwo for his head, and a stuffed animal that smells like his "mom".
He's a major mommy's dog.
It's my dog Skippy, who has a bad knee.
He doesn't cry when she's here though.

T^T

She is a whippet hound that we just adopted from the humane society. She never barks at anyone, normally runs away, and after she gets use to you she will be your best friend. I brought my 2yr old nephew over, and she started barking and growling at him only. Why is that?

I just asked a question on buying an undersized, disqualified colored Doberman, and was told that it was a really bad idea. However, people are on here every day looking for a "teacup" or "imperial" Shih Tzu (or other toy breed) and that is just fine! Why is that? These breeds are toy breeds anyway, why would you want them several pounds UNDER standard anyway?

Is it not just as bad having a small dog over bred for undersized results? Are breed standards ONLY important for large breeds? Please, fill me in! I don't understand this double standards.
