well, honestly...this is your decision. i have a dog and yes, it's a lot of work and takes up a lot of money. you have veterinarian bills, check ups, vaccinations, food and taking care of, comfort. everything costs money. before you actually consider getting a dog, it would be best if you don't seriously rush things. i dont know if you're ready for a dog because i dont know you well but in order to adopt a dog, you need to be capable of actually taking care of one. you need to feed it, take it to the vet, groom it, cut its nails, clean the butt if its dirty, neuter/spay. its not going to be easy but you will LOVE having a dog around if you're that kind of person. like i said before, dont rush into things, though. look online for information. look at the types of dogs you are probably interested into. after, look for facts on that specific dog. they're not toys and after you get that puppy, that's it. no refunds and that puppy is stuck with you forever. once you get it, you need to take care of it. go to this site unless you need it http://dogs.about.com/od/beforeyougetadog/Considering_a_Dog.htm
it gives u a lot of information about commiting to a dog and i would highly recommend looking at info. before getting a dog.

GOOD LUCK! i promise, you'll really love it if you get one.

Well, it depends and you have to consider all the responsibilities:

1) Will you be able to take the dogs to the Veterinary?
2) To properly take care of a dog it can get expensive, so do you have the money to put into the dog?
3) If you get a puppy you will have to train it and watch it constantly.
4) They can't be locked up in a house all day they need exercise and time to run around.

Dogs are great you just have to make sure you have the time and energy to put into a pet, it's almost like having a child.

Dogs are totally worth it. My Rottweiler and my lab are my CHILDREN! I take them to starbucks, get my coffee and 2 bagels, 1 with extra cream cheese, and 1 that is light on cream cheese. I know everything about my babies and do what it takes to make them happy. My rotti likes beef, my lab prefers chicken. My Rotti hates lettuce and pickles and my lab LOVES pickles and hates tomatoes. (Human food is not the best for them but every once in a while it wont kill them)

Bottom line, a dog should be treated just like a child. If you are willing to put that kind of effort into your dog's wants/needs then I say go for it. But don't be unrealistic, if you can not put the necessary effort in, its better not to do. Afterall, someone out there may be able to care for that dog a little better than you simply because they have say... more time, more money... etc. Consider the dog's needs before your wants!

I think only you can answer that.

1. Do you have the time to commit to a dog? I've heard the expression that dogs (and cats) are children in fuzzy coats. They need attention, love, exercise, love, playtime and love.

2. Do you have the finances for a dog? This not only includes food, toys, occassional treats and other equipment, but money for regular well-being veteranarian visits and emergencies. Medical bills can be quite high, comperable to a human nowadays.

3. Do you know what kind of dog is best for you? Have you done your research into the various dog breeds to see what would be a good match. The American Kennel Club is a good site to start with (http://www.akc.org/ )

If you truly love dogs so much then get one - from the pound. Don't buy one!!! There are so many that will die without a family to take care of it. The best thing you can do is save one from a shelter. Buying pets just causes more to be breed for money and then thrown away when they're unwanted just to be put down later.

For me, I like dogs, but once I have one, a week later they're like just another piece of furniture. I kinda start ignoring the pet and stop petting it. I only feed it and then feel bad. With me working full time I think it would be unfair to have a pet. If I stayed at home I might get one, but they smell, poop and need attention and care. I think I wouldn't be very fit as a pet owner. :(

There are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself first:

Are you in a position to offer the dog a home for the duration of its life-perhaps even to 18 years?

Are you willing and able to support it with proper veterinary care (including emergency care), food, shelter and a safe place to run and live on a daily basis?

Are you willing and able to take the dog to training classes to be sure that he grows up to be a good canine citizen? Will you train yourself on the techniques you need to know in order to be a good dog owner?

And most importantly--Will you allow him to share your home with you and be a TRUE member of your family, not just something tied up in back???

If you can say "YES" to all of the above, then I would say sure, get a dog. They are wonderful. A good dog is just the best.

Dogs Are AWESOME! I love dogs and they do require care, that's granted, but they're not that big of a hassle and they are so worth it! They are like your best friend. they seem to care about only you and how you feel. That sounds really weird but dogs get attached to their owners and learn their habits. They know when something is wrong. They are so sweet and fun! Do Your Self A Favor! GET A DOG! (If you want to!)

It depends. 1. Does all your family want a dog? 2. Is your home suitable for a dog? 3. Can you cover the costs of a cage, toys shampoo, food, etc. and overall the dog itself? 4. If you ansewered yes to all, what kind?

If you ansewered yes to 1 and 2 and 3, and have decided on 4, you, my friend, are ready for a dog.

My suggestion is to go to the shelter and adopt. Those dogs have a way of knowing that you saved them and will give their all to you. You'll never be disappointed. Make sure you have time to give back the love and time to them and make sure you get the right size for your situation....good luck
