My friends are saying I should get a dog but I am out of the house 6am-6pm. Do you think an older dog would be OK? Any suggestions? Would a cat be better? Would love to get a pet but just don't know if it would be practical or fair. And I'm not into fish or snakes or other "stuff" Thanks

My puppy right now is either 5 or 41/2 months. His mom was some type of terrier but im not sure what she was they said it was a white one with curly hair. His dad was a German Shephard. He looks nothing like his mom from what i can imagine. Either the dad or mom was part husky because his tail looks like a husky tail and he has husky traits. Is his height/weight impossible to predict?

My dog is very bad about chasing cars. She gets really bad when I'm outside almost like she wants to protect me from them. I don't really know why she wants to chase them but I think she might have some herding breed in her. Anyways... I was wondering, what are some things I can do to get her to stop? She has been hit by a car once before but it wasn't a bad hit and she was fine afterwards. I just don't want it to happen again! I have heard of collars that shock the dog but I don't really want to do that to her, and I don't want to fence her up because I have a really big yard and she likes to visit and play with my neighbor's dogs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Is it safe to paint a dogs nails? I mean couldn't they lick the paint off or chew their nails and eat it? Would that harm them? Just wondering because I wanted to paint my dogs nails but i wanted to make sure its safe first.

i have a 9 month old shihtzu puppy who is very scared to take baths! i used to give her baths but she's horrible! she scratchs up my arm trying to get me to pick her up and hold her to get out of the water and she also jumps around and gets water everywhere (i give her baths in the kitchen sink, because its just easier) a few months ago i gave up on trying to bathe her myself so i usually take her to the groomers and let them deal with her, but im tired of wasting $30 every 2 weeks, when i could do it for free. so any tips on giving dogs baths?

and what about blowdrying? the groomer said to use the blowdryer on high speed, and low heat. i do that but the dog trys to attack the hair dryer! any tips on that?

thanks!

I just recently got a female Maltese puppy. She is eight weeks old. We have started to socialize her with other animals and people. She's great with people, she lets anyone pick her up and just cuddle with her and she never bites, barks, or growls at them. However, we introduced her to two dogs, both very friendly English Springer Spaniels, and she growled and snapped. Also, we showed her to a cat and she growled and showed aggression. She's so young, is there anyway we can break her aggressive behaviors towards other animals? One thing about the other dogs, though, is that she was wagging her tail and she began pawing at the other dogs faces in a playful manner after she growled and snapped at them. Maybe it was just a game? I'm not sure, but any answers would be great.

Has anyone read that the Rabies Vaccine is given too often by being given every year. Federal regulations only require it given once every three years. Anyone had any experiences with this?

I own 7 month old pit and i love her to death she is the sweatest dog ive ever owned, i have owned several Labs in my life mostly and used them all for hunting purposes, but i have found that my pit may be more intelligent than any of my labs. She watches the labs and acts like them its the craziest thing ive ever seen, she wants to be a bird dog too. With all that said the question is

I understand the fighting purposes but why are people blaming the breed (not recognized by the AKC) not the owner and do you agree or disagree to the setiment that they are a inherit danger to societ

ive posted a similar question, but didnt get answers that im looking for.

i have a doberman pinscher that is 1 year old. he is hyper, jumps around on furniture, and wants to play all the time with my other dogs, even at 1am. he also scrathes the doors all the time when he wants to go outside, or when he wants to be in a room by me, or if he wants to come in the house. he barks alot, at everything! he doesnt seem to listen, i tell him to lay down, he will for only a minute, but gets back up right away, hes always got to, or wants to go outside, (to potty, or just to pay outside) etc.

i am thinking about nuetering him, to try to calm him down, but is it worth registering him with the AKC if im going to nueter him???????

ive wanted to have a few litters of pups, before i nueter him, should i nueter him???????

if i excersized him alot.. will he be well behaved, or he just still in his puppy stage???

again, I KNOW most of u will give me an asnwer that i am NOT looking for,

If cats are free to roam like rats/mice, etc can I treat them as vermin and if they enter my garden, could i let my jack russell have a go?

I know if you hit one in a car you don't have to stop or report it, but you do if you hit a dog.

I am not Anti all cats, just the ones that people let roam and burry their poo under my plants and kill them. i just want to know if i will be in trouble with the fuzz if i let my dog attack a cat in my garden?

Im a delivery person. I deliver packages to peoples homes in rural areas. Most of these people have dogs for security. I was bitten by a dog today as I was walking away from a man whom I had just handed his package. Its not a terrible dog bite but the skin was broken. I dont need stitches or anything but I want to know for sure the dog doesnt have rabies. I thought asking the person whether or not the dog had already had its rabies shots was a good thing to do but thats naive. They all say "uh-huh" with that glazed look in their eyes. When I asked the male owner of the dog whether or not the dog had been given its shots he didnt even bother to ask me why I was asking or apologize for the dogs behavior. Im sure he seen the dog bite me. Anyway, I can live with the dog bite. I just dont want to die of rabies in a week. Should I report this to police? Is there a way to demand the owner provide proof of these shots through legal methods?
