You should be able to fit two fingers under the collar, if not it's too tight.

I have small hands, so I normally make sure that I can snugly fit four fingers in the collar when it's around the dog's neck. However, you might want to do only three fingers if your hands are bigger. Just make sure it's fairly loose around her neck but not too loose that it'll come off when you pull it up to her head. If you have a really stocky dog with a neck that is thicker than her head, or if you would just feel more comfortable about not choking your dog, you can always buy a body harness and attach her identification tags to that.

Well lets see captain obvious i think there r 3 thinks that might mean the collar is too tight

1. The dog is no longer breathing
2. When you lead the dog u r dragging it (probably passed out from lack of oxygen)
3. If the dog gets a constipated look on its face when u put the collar on

well hope i was helpful

Sounds to me like this collar is too tight . Can you adjust it? If you can make it looser. You should be able to put 2 fingers inbetween the collar and the the dogs skin with out pulling on it at all.

If you can't put two fingers under the collar it is too tight , loosen it up. Keep an eye on the collar since puppies grow fast and it can become small quickly.

Well, if she starts to choke, it's too tight.

Kidding! It should have give, but not be loose enough to be pulled off. A good way to tell is stick a finger or two in the collar, and it should be taut, but not loose or tight.

IF the collar is on right, you should be able to slip 2 fingers sideways in between the collar and the dog's neck.

Hopefully if you are leaving a collar on her it is a buckle type collar and there should be room for two fingers to fit in between it and the dog's neck. It shouldn't be used as a walking collar for her though as she will be capable of backing out of it and getting loose. If you want a walking collar you need to choose a different type - either a nylon slip type collar or a chain slip collar or something like that - something that will tighten if she attempts to back out of it but these are not to be left on the dog as they can get caught on something and tighten to the point of strangling them - you have to always be with a dog when it has a slip type collar on and even then, be watching them closely. I knew of a MinPin that got a slip collar caught on one of his canines and put his paws through it to try to get it off and ended up strangling himself... very sad which is why different collars are for different things and people need to be aware of how to utilize them properly. Good luck..

It is too tight when you cannot easily slip your finger between the dogs neck and the collar.
