i have a miniature pintcher that is over a year old and i'm still waiting for her to have puppies. i've noticed she doesn't like being humped by a male dog, she likes to be the one humping. its hillarious but just makes me wonder can female dogs be lesbian or something? or why do they do that?

Hi,
I have a Stafffy cross dog and when i took her to vets to be chipped the vet told me she could be spayed from 6 months, which i was keen to do, so we are not even taking ANY chances, but when i called the vets to book her in, the receptionist told me i had to wait til she had her first season and then 3 months after. I explained what the vet told me and she was adamant it was wrong. I was gobsmacked as i thought the vet would know better that her as he would be more qualified.
I do not want to take her to another vet as we have been with this vet for ages and i would prefer her to be with a vet i know and trust.
Does anyone know what the best time or earliest time to have dog spayed?
Thanks

My dog knows her name and she knows "come" because if we're in the house she always listens and sometimes when she's outside she listens. But sometimes she'll just completely blow me off and when I try and grab her she runs the other direction! It's incredibly frustrating but I don't know how to fix it. Helpful answers only...I don't want to hear any responses about how it's my fault. Thank you.

Just curious. When does one become considered a "collector?"

our dog is husky shepherd mix. he's about 9 yrs old. we got him from the spca about 6 yrs. ago and the vet said he was about 3 then.
he has been acting very lethargic. he is just laying around and sleeping A LOT. he won't get up and greet like normal. he looks very sad. i got him to drink a little water, he has no appitite. we took him to the vet yesterday, she felt of him all over, moved joints, etc. temp was normal. they took blood, but we won't get results til tomorrow :(
this has been going on for several days. he is an outside dog, so i haven't seen when he has gone poop. i think he has vomited some. any suggestions till i get blood results??

There is a 3 legged dog in the pound. Shes 8 years old medium sized dog. Seems pretty nice. I have been keeping a eye on her and now I believe shes been there too long and needs out. I suppose people are unsure of her having 3 legs. Do you think this dog will be able to climb steep steps? Its her back leg that is missing. I know she can play and run like usual but what about the steps. I'm thinking I'm going to get her out tomorrow but rather her sleep in our room upstairs then downstairs in a crate. By the way, we are talking about a 100 year old farmhouse where the steps also curve up.

So if you feed your dog kibble, how do you give a garlic supplement for fleas?

Money has been tight lately and we had to skimp on flea preventative. Problem is the weather didn't cooperate and flea season has been longer than normal this year. My dogs now have fleas and we're unable to get advantage for them at this time.

I know some people recommend garlic, but I am unsure of how to actually give it to them and in what quantities and how many times per week.

Thanks for answering!

I have been trying to find one. My family used to own a chocolate short hair named chewy and I absolutely loved the dog, but i cant seem to find any breeders aside from out of state.

I am getting tired of feeding my dog kibble from a bag. I will continue adding it though to a homemade diet or a bit more completness. I have been feeding GO to my pom for about a year now. i would just like to find a simple homemade recipie to make him instead of just throwing every thing in and not coming out with a completly health diet.

Some thing to know:
he likes everything
he is scared of large bones(sometimes even small ones)
I'd perfer it to include beef, since it is easier to afford

Why do they have to pee all around their area? Why can't the do something else...and I have heard its because they can smell the difference then shouldn't the be able to smell other dogs in the area?

This dog needs tons of exercise and i'd like to take him to the dog park, but the other owners are already banishing him without a muzzle. Will it help him to learn social skills by getting him used to the dog park with a muzzle and then gradually trusting him without? He came from a home with other dogs, but when he was allowed inside, he was kept isolated from them.

I WROTE A QUESTION FRIDAY ABOUT MY CHIHUAHUA WHEEZING AND HAVING A HARD TIME BREATHING. ONE EYE WAS SWELLING ETC. I HAD GIVEN HER BENEDRYL THINKING IT WAS ALLERGIES. ALSO TOLD YOU HOW BAD SHE BITES WHEN TAKEN TO THE VET. TOOK HER TO VET ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER READING YOUR ANSWERS. LET ME SAY SHE BIT MY RIGHT ARM IN THREE PLACES JUST GETTING HER OUT OF THE CAR. MY VET PRETTY MUCH KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER TWO CHEST XRAYS HE SHOWED THEM TO ME. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I SAW. HER STOMACH FILLED HER WHOLE ABDOMEN. IT WAS PUSHING HEART,LUNGS&ESOPHAGUS UP SHE HAD WHAT THEY CALL A "BLOAT" .HER STOMACH COULD HAVE TWISTED AT ANY SECOND WHICH IS CAUSE FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY. IT'S AIR THAT GETS IN STOMACH AND IS USALLY ALWAYS IN LARGE DOGS WITH BIG CHEST. HE WAS PRETTY SHOCKED TO SEE IT IN A CHIHUAHUA. SHE STAYED OVERNIGHT AND GOES BACK IN A.M. IT'S A SERIOUS SITUATION AND MOST LIKELY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THERE IS A 50-50 CHANCE SHE WILL LOSE HER LIFE IF IT FLIPS OR DURING SURGRY. I AM SO SAD. PRAY

He's 3 years old and has been neutered since he was about 5 months old. He doesn't do this to ANYONE else. Every once in a while he'll do it to one other dog, but ONLY that dog. I can't do sit ups, or anything without him jumpin on! I know it's instinct and it's not a sexual thing. But why only me? Im a vet assistant and everyone I work with and even my boss (the vet) wasn't sure why he would mount only me. So im hoping someone out there knows!

I have a little **** zu, about 2 years old. Everytime is rains he seems to be sleepy and not very motivated. He hates walking in the rain, so i don't walk him for very long, i walk him long enough for him to do his business. Well at least a pee.

Okay, so my 11 month old cockapoo is getting fixed monday.
my mom and I had a little debate about this-
I tought that they would "chop off" his balls, becasue my fixed (male) cat looks like he doesn't have balls, just a big scar. But she thinks that they just cut or tie up the vain- like in humans.
But then, my cousin's 5 yr old "tea cup" poodle was just fixed this summer and she says they took off one ball...?
Is it different when they fix dog then when they fix cats?
Does the dog's size matter? (mine is about 25 lbs)
What will happen Monday morning to my pup?

AND...

What are some precautions that I should take when I drop him off and pick him up?

I did this before with my cat, but that was 5 years ago...

Thanks!
