I love my chihuahua! He's so cute and he does the funniest things. Hes a little clown, you can't be in a bad mood with a chihuahua around. But like previous posters stated it would depend on what kind of dog you want, if you want a small dog around kids or with high energy Pugs are great. If you want a lapdog Chihuahuas, shihtzu, yorkies are good.

I would recomend a poodle or a maltese. Both are mostly calm. Of course, if you want a dog to play with, I would recomend a Jack Russel Terrier. They are small and fun to play with. They always have energy.
Then, if you are up to a dog that is medium sized, I wold recomend a collie or a sheltie. Both have energy, but are also calm.

Get a small mutt from the pound that is 1-3 years old. These dogs are often already house broken, fixed, and have their shots. You know how big they are going to get since they are full grown. Since most people want puppies, they are harder to adopt out, but since they are still young, they are easy to train.

You should also get a dog that meets your personality and energy level. Don't get a working dog that needs 3 or 4 hours of exercise a day if you are not willing to work them that hard. A big yard is not enough.

Check petfinder.com for dogs that meet your size, gender, and family needs.

PS- I love my rescued Chihuahua mix. He is larger than a regular Chihuahua (~20 lbs.) and he has long hair. While he is not as yappy as a full-breed Chihuahua, he is as possessive.

Depends on the person. I personally like my Chinese Cresteds... expecially the hairless. They are affectionate and snuggly. Fred is constantly on my lap. They are very in tune to their owner's emotions. They are lively little dogs with a sence of humour. They are like a cat, a dog, a monkey and a small child all rolled into one (yes, they do get into things!) They are ready to do whatever you are doing... they can be zooming around the yard one minute, and passed out on the couch the next.

The breed does have cons, like all breeds. They are emotional, needy and clingy.. which I like, but some people do not. The hairless requires daily skin care to prevent acne, blackheads, dry skin, sunburn, irritations and infections. They are notoriously difficult to housebreak.

Depends on who the dog is for..children young couple old couple? Shih-Tzu tend to do well with all different owners. But there not a low maintance dog. They need alot of grooming. But they are low shed. It's all in how you raise and train them.

a pug!!! I have 2 and they are awesome! low maintenance with a great personality! they are very cuddly and cute, they are not little yippers, and do not shed. we work crazy schedules and did some research before choosing to get another dog (the only other dog I've had was my family dog- a shi tzu- is another great breed). only regret, should've gotten a pug sooner :) good luck

Yorkshire terrier or a pomeranian. Both are extremely smart.
Chihuahua's ARE cute, but tend to get feisty if not raised properly...
