RE:
where can i find the closest Miniature Dachshund breeder in Northern Virginia?
I have been trying to find one. My family used to own a chocolate short hair named chewy and I absolutely loved the dog, but i cant seem to find any breeders aside from out of state.

Go to local vet clinics. Almost every breeder in America, takes their dogs to the vet its part of being a breeder. Tell the receptionist your situation and they should be able to get you in touch with some breeders in your area. If you don't have one close call other clinics. The only thing with breeders is that they all want a pretty penny for their dogs, which they should. So if you are not willing to pay an arm and a leg for a dog from a breeder. Try the humane society or places like that.

You have a few options, I live in Virginia myself near Richmond, there are always listings in the classified section, this Sunday's paper is loaded. Also the Trading Post lists them. Web search, normally simple "List of Dachshund Breeders in Northern Virginia" can get you a good list. I got this for you to start with :D http://www.nextdaydogs.com/breeders/find~All+Dogs~Virginia~dog+breeders~VA~All+Dogs~a.aspx
Not sure about vet's in your neck of the woods but Vet Clinics offer to list breeders.
Yet another option too, running your own ad in the newspaper or Trading post for a Breeder to contact you. (WARNING: There are fees to this though)
However the case it sounds like you want the pup, these ads running already have that special pup you are looking for, I wish you the best of luck on finding him or her!!!!!

I have a friend who breeds beautiful mini doxies, she just had a litter this week that will be ready early January. If you email me I can give you her contact info; she has 9 puppies, it's too early to tell hair type, but her female usually throws wire-hairs and short-hairs in the same litter. :-) She is in Maryland, but it's not a far drive from here to VA, only an hour or so.
Email babyangelluvs@yahoo.com if you'd like.

here is a doxie rescue in northern va: http://www.drna.org/
if you absolutely don't want to rescue a dog make sure you don't buy a dog from a pet store or a puppy mill. go to a licensed breeder.
please watch this before you get a dog!- http://video.hsus.org/?fr_story=FRdamp226793&rf=bm
