When you take your dog out for a walk, why do you allow your mutt to take a crap in other people's yards?

And don't lie and say that you pick up after your dog, either. I bet that maybe .5% of all dog owners actually are conscientious.

Are you just lazy or just inconsiderate? And how would you feel if I dropped my trousers and launched a Democrat on YOUR front yard?

I play tug of war with my dogs... one at the time....
One is 60lbs and the other is 50lbs... I am 110lbs...so we never play too rough as they seem to know that I am not that strong. I make sure I win (to be the alpha one, and I am anyway)...
they love playing it... and they do play with each other too. never had a bite, and when they play with each other, they never hurt each other either.

My brother in law does not let his dog playing it (I started to play with his dog and I had to stop)... because he says that it will make him agressive....the funny thing is that 4 months later (the other day) his dog growled at his kids and grabbed the kid's arm.

Could not letting a dog being a dog be more dangerous?
I mean if your dog knows who is the boss, then it's ok to play "dog games" (tug of war) with them, no?

My boyfriend is getting a pug tomorrow! :) I am buying the dog a collar and a leash. The dog was born a little chubby, I just wondered what size collar I should get for the pug?

That is the collar I am getting...any ideas? He says I should get a small size, but I am debating between that and a medium. Ideas?

We just got a puppy about two months ago and my cat is now about 9 months old. When we first got the puppy the cat was bigger and would chase the puppy around and bite him or hold him down and lick his head and the puppy did not like this. Well the puppy is bigger than our cat now and when they play I think he is being too rough, he will grab the cat under his chin with his teeth and shake his head. The cat has a few scabs on his neck, but our cat still chases him and the dog is usually the one who yelps but he can get the kitty pretty good. How to I train him to be nicer to the cat, usually when he is being too rough I use a firm voice and say "NO, Be nice", but I don't want to train them not to play? I hope this isn't too confusing! Thanks.

Will be flying with my dog on Northwest/KLM. Because of her size she will have to ship cargo. I have heard arguments on both sides regarding the use of tranquilizers. I would prefer not to use drugs. Does anyone have any advice or experience flying with a large breed dog?

My dog was prescribed prednisone for an allergy on his neck. An itchy rash. He is also taking an antibiotic and the steroid (prednisone) is used to prevent the itching. I found out that one of it's symptoms are premature kidney/liver failure. I called the vet and told them of my findings and they said it's true. Why would they prescribe that medication to my dog knowing the symptoms are fatal???!! I'm furious!

don't you think he should be put down. I don't think he is unhappy cause he other than being blind is very healthy . Am I being selfish in not having him put down?

Jewel, is a little over a year, she has her own room (a converted closet in our bedroom with a twin size bed and pet gate for a door). She roams the house when we are home and sleeps with us at night. When we leave she is kept in her room. The problem is that she is tearing up her room, first it was the gate, she either chewed or scratched the top. Next it was the walls, she has scratched through the wallboard and gotten into the insulation. Then it moved to the door (which we never close) she either chewed or scratched the wood so much that the door is nearly ruined. At that point we figured she may need to have more space, so we gave her access to the bedroom while we were gone, she proceeded to scratch up the wood floors under the door and scratch at the trim. She went back into her room and is now tearing apart her bed. She has plenty of chew toys and bones and is doing well in obedience training. How can we keep her from tearing stuff up while we are not home?

my roommates dog trembles and pants like she is freaking out most of the day. At first i thought she was just really timid because she avoids me and my roommate all the time and i thought she shook because she was scared of the new place. but we moved two months ago and she comes to me now and lays with me but she still shakes and pants way more than any dog ive ever owned to seen. its like she is having a panic attack or something.. im going to take her to the vet to be sure shes alright.. but has anyone ever heard of this

My baby loves to run and I took him with me this morning to get coffee and study. I rode my bike and he ran- I like him to run and get the energy out when possible and I don't have a car. We've done it before and I am pretty careful.

Well today I was pulling off to the side to let him go potty and he turned and headed right toward me and his leg hit the bike. He yelped and cried and limped for about 45 seconds and them put him leg down and walked just fine. 1 hour later I check them again and he didn't yelp when I touched them or flinch or anything. We ran home with him going pretty fast (I let him choose the speed) and em being extremely careful.

I still feel awful about it- I called the vet and they said if he seems fine he probably is.- just keep an eye on him.

He keeps the kisses coming- he doesn't seem mad.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Do you still feel bad?

I know it is extremely rare in dogs, but mine has it. He's been on penicillin treatment for about 2 weeks now with 1 week to go. He isn't getting any worse, but his jaw won't release. Does anyone know if he'll ever be able open his mouth again even if the treatment kills the bacteria and toxin? He can get his tongue out and we have to make him "dog food soup" to eat, so he's not starving. But he's so playful and happy...so I know it's not spreading. Please...any insight would be very appreciated. My vet has never seen tetanus in a dog and he's researched it and called his colleagues....NO ONE knows what's going to happen! All he can tell me is from what he has heard...the outcome is usually not good and the dogs had to be put down.

My friend and i both have gotten our puppies at the same time.... hers a chihuahua and mine a shih tzu.

Max (mine) is very smart he can do tons of tricks and the dog trainer said he was one of the smartest in his classes... however he has a chewing problem (he does it when i am not there) and sometimes whines to be with me.

everytime we talk about our problems she always suggests hitting him till he whines.... I hate this advice and sometimes we get into arguments over it. she obviously hits her dog so hard that she makes him cry and supposedly this makes him stop doing whatever it is he was punished for.

ive tried tapping max while forcefully saying no when i catch him in the act but i dont want to hurt him or have him fear me rather than obey me

what do you think
