Grama doesn't need a dog. It's obvious that she can't care for one. Nor should she be expected to.

Grama needs to move to a more secure place - as in an assisted care facility with Alzheimer unit.

Barring that, Grama needs to move in with a relative who can supervise her properly.

Now, Grama won't like moving one bit - the day she moves - but give her a day or two - a week at most - and she won't remember a thing and begin to adjust nicely.

But Grama doesn't need the responsibility of a dog. The confusion she has is already stressing both her and the dog pretty severely.

A dog is not the answer try to persuade her to come live with you or a house very near you find the dog a new home if she doesnt know she has it the dog will die and it will be horrible if she doesnt know she has it and finds a dead dog in her house if she wont live near you then try taking her to a retirment home

I agree with searchpup. You should probably find a new home for the dog and try to find a better place for your grandmother to live. Maybe she could move in with you so that you can take care of her, or a nursing home.

I went through this with my grandmother, and sadly, the dog is not the answer to her problems. It has just created more.
Her Alzheimer's will not get any better, it will only get worse. If she is getting so forgetful that she forgets she has a dog, or forgets to feed it, she will also be forgetting to feed herself. She needs to not be living alone at this point.

you should have thought about if she was ready for the responsibility before hand but since its to late maybe you or another adult should take care of the dog...maybe she should have somebody to live with her
