At what age do dogs first come into season? I have a small mongrel puppy who I think is about 6 months old, and she has come into season. Is this normal?

yes... this is pretty normal for small dogs... my toy fox terrier did when she was about 6 months old... bigger dogs usually go into heat later

Six months is the average age. As soon as she goes out of heat, you should get her spayed. Then you won't have to worry about all that messy heat, and keeping male dogs away from her. You will both be happier!

Funny how everyone says 6 months. My dog just came into heat at 1 year. I think it's different for every dog. I'm no expert tho!

six months is the normal and if she's a mongrel please get her fixed.
She will be in heat for about 3 weeks and I suggest keeping her in your sight and away from all males for about 4 weeks for safety.

Yes. Smaller breeds usually come into heat earlier.

That's about the time they usually do, which is why most vets recommend you get them spayed at 5 months.
