When I read online, it said "promote purebreeds" in the objectives for the club. Does this mean I'm unable to join? My doggies a mutt 50 times over!
Thanks!

Yes you can join the club, be part of all the activities, help with events, and everything else. Your dog would just be excluded.

If you are interested in joining a dog club contact the club and talk to a local member they can advise you best what the structure of the club is, and what types of activies they do in a typical year. If you are interested in one of the Companion or performance events I would recommend that you contact a club for that activity in your area.

For the purposes of further answering I will respond as if for the US -
The AKC (American Kennel Club) is a orgainzation that is organized for the purpose of "promoting the pure breed dog".
No individual can join the AKC - it is an orgaization of member Kennel Clubs. There are two types of AKC related Kennel Clubs - Member Clubs that send a repesentative to the AKC govermental structure, and Licensed Clubs that hold AKC Lisenced Events. Each of these clubs has there own membership requiorments, but most will have as one of thier purposes to promote the pure breed dog. This is appropriate as only pure breed dogs are at this time allowed to participate in AKC Member or Licensed Events. (the AKC may consider including mixed breed dogs in companion and performance evnets in the future if the dogs are nutered - but this is current not yet deteremined)

If you have to own a pure breed dog, or a even own a dog at all will be in the membership requiorments of each Kennel or Events Club. I know clubs that have members with mixed breed dogs, and some members that, at this time, do not own a dog at all. These folks enjoy the company of these interested in dog events, wish to learn more about dogs, dog breeds, and dog events, and are willing to support the activies of the club.
All-breed Kennel CLubs have as one of there main activites holding the Conformation Dog show - where dogs are judges against a breed standard. This compitition is help determine which dogs should be included in a breeding program. Because of this, these clubs are mostly made up are owners and breeders of pure breed dogs. But many of these clubs also support AKC Obedience & Agility Events.

There are also clubs that are organzied around companion and preformance events such as tracking, obedience, agility, herding, hunting etc. Typically these clubs are more likely to have members that own mixed breed dogs as there are other titling orgainzations were persons interested in these activites can earn titles other than from the AKC. These other national orgaizations that have titling program include: Agility - USDAA & NADAC, Obedience - UKC & ASCA, Rally Obedience APDT. Exhibitors (dog owners that show) may choose to earn titles from many different orgaizations.

I assume you're referring to the AKC - American Kennel Club. If so, than no, you can't join. The AKC is not a membership for people, so "you" can't join.

Even if your dog is not a purebred, if it "looks" like something, i.e. golden retriever, german shepherd, etc., than you can register it with the AKC by utilizing an ILP process. (look online for more info www.akc.org). A dog has to have either an AKC or ILP# to show him in an obedience or rally class at a dog show. He has to be a purebred with an AKC# to show him in conformation.

Just because you can't join the AKC, it doesn't mean you can't join your local AKC dog club. These clubs are for "people" and you can get involved with different AKC activities (helping at dog shows, children's activities, etc) through the club, even though your dog can't be registered with the AKC. "Mutts" can also take classes through these clubs or even earn their CGC (Canine Good Citizen certificate).

Most clubs encourage owners of mixed breed dogs to get involved.

Of course you can join! I'm sure they will welcome you, clubs always are looking for new members. You just won't be able to enter your mixed breed dog in the Conformation events.

No you can't join. You can't join unless you have the breeding papers (that you can only get from a licensed breeder) authenticating your dogs "pureness". I don't think mutts come with those...
