I have a 9 1/2 year old german shepherd mix that is blind, has diabitese, arthrites, and also cancer. She still has a lot of spirit in her though. She knows many tricks and has not forgotten one yet. She still loves running in the mornings with me, but can't go far because of the arthrites. She loves to play ball even though she can't see it anymore. Her illness has not made her aggressive toward peolpe, but she is starting to become skittish. I don't know whether to put her down or not. WHAT SHOULD I DO?????!!!!!!!!!

As an answer to a posted question it was stated that you shouldn't feed a dog raisins? I realize that people food = bad but why raisins in particular?

I have a 6 year old golden retriever and on his right ear I felt this squishy lump about half an inch long. It doesn’t appear to be causing him pain or trouble. And it doesn’t bother him when I touch it. It almost feels like pus inside of it but his ear looks normal it just has this odd long lump. What is it? Thanks for any help.

A Little Dog Angel
High up in the courts of heaven today
a little dog angel waits;
with the other angels he will not play,
but he sits alone at the gates.
"For I know my master will come" says he,
"and when he comes he will call for me."
The other angels pass him by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And he watches them with a wistful eye
as he sits at the gates alone.
"But I know if I just wait patiently
that someday my master will call for me."
And his master, down on earth below,
as he sits in his easy chair,
forgets sometimes, and whispers low
to the dog who is not there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
and dreams that his master's voice he hears.
And when at last his master waits
outside in the dark and cold,
for the hand of death to open the door,
that leads to those courts of gold,
he will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
a little dog angel's bark.

Rescued a 9 y/o jack russell x from the RSPCA. I dont know the history apart from he's been in the home 3 months and dropped off by an old lady who is going into a home (true or not). The dog is fine in the house and around kids. The problem arises when he meets another dog on a walk, he will sniff then 2 secs later snap/ bite at it in aggression. Heeeeelp.

I have a Belgium Malinois who is an escape artist. I have had her for 6 years. She just now started to get out. So i put concrete blocks around the holes. Well she just moved them out of the way. Then i dug a whole and put chicken wire down. Well she chewed threw that and got out. Then i did what i never wanted to do. I chained her up. And still she is getting out of that. She keeps on going to another yard where their are like 3 other dogs. I have to check on her every 10 min just to make sure she is still their.

hi, my dog is a 7 month old rottwieler. he lives in the house with us. he's really sweet, although a bit rough some times, but when it comes to strangers, he becomes a totally different dog! our gardener can't go into our yard without coming into the house first. he goes nuts! the first time he did this we were all very concerned, he had foam in his mounth and his hair was all standing up.
I guess he thinks that if people are aloud to come into the house, then their a friend. but when I walk him he keeps barking at people and, again, his hair stands up. I sence that it's really not that he means harm but he's scared of people, since when he was still a baby we didn't really take him outside to meet people because rottwielers are very delicate in their first months.
I'm really afraid that one of these days it really gets out of my hands and my familys. I don't want to send him to a dog school either. any sugestions help.
ps. he's a jumper too

My dog has this almost ritual type thing he does everytime before he eats.
First, he will push his nose in and out of his dry dog food several times, then he will rub his nose on the carpet surrounding the bowl also pushing the bowl forward and spilling out bits and pieces of his food. He will repeat this process several times.
It's funny to watch. : )

Any ideas as to why he is doing this?

Is it totally necessary to vacinate my small dog every year? I read online that dogs get over vacinated and to much can be dangerous for them. I have a small chihuahua and i have had him vacinated last 3 years, but everytime i do i am so nervous because he has always had reactions to the shots. First year he got so swollen looked like a bulldog. Second year they gave him benedryl right before, so he did not swell up, but he heart raced for almost 24hours and he could not keep still all day and night after. Last year, i decided to talk with the vet about not giving it to him and i went ahead and did the rabies first then waited a month and did the 8 in one shot.
I have just read that for small dogs once is enough that dogs can get to much vacination. Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks.

First of all, I would like to say that I am totally humane and only want to do this for my dog's sake. Now, I have talked this over very cautiously with my uncle who is a vet. First of all, if I did do it, my dog is still a pup. We will simply be putting a rubberband around the end to cut off circulation until the tail falls off... there will be no pain involved.

Ok, so, now to the story. My dogs tail is huge (and thick)! She is haft pitt bull. Everytime she passes by people she hits them in on the legs and people often say it hurts. It's always a very loud thump. SHe can be sitting somewhere, and it just because her tail is so huge, it just goes... thump, thump, thump.... it mean she knocks thing over constantly, and we get on to her about it, but the poor thing, she never knows why she is getting into trouble!!

Please help, what should I do?

I have a shih tzu that is my dog (11 months) who lives in the house. My bf's Bull Mastiff (2 yrs) lives outside (always has..) the shih tzu has known the mastiff his whole life....

When the Mastiff comes inside, the shih tzu starts jumping on him and sometimes biting/tugging the mastiff's ear... never barking, but sometimes very quiet growling... the mastiff usually just lays there and takes it or swats the shih tzu w/ his paws.....

is this playing or is it showing dominance over the house?
should i try to stop the shih tzu from "torturing" the mastiff or is it all in fun?

My 5 month old Yorkie always swallows his food! When I give him a biscuit, it takes him a good 4minutes to chew through the whole thing. And when I feed him his kibbles, he always swallows it and finishes it in less than 2minutes. So far, I've been soaking his kibbles in water and that's how he's been eating his food for two weeks. For breakfast he gets it soaked, lunch I've changed to hard kibbles now so he has time to practice chewing, and dinner he gets it soaked. Is this normal? What should I do? My mom wants me to change his food to smaller kibbles but won't that encourage his swallowing?

He doesn't mind chewing on stuffed animals, his edible nylabone, hard plastic baby keys, rawhides, etc.

P.S. He's healthy & I'm feeding him the right amount of kibbles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ever since I got him, he's been gaining weight. He's now a good 10 pounds and he'll only get bigger. He's not a tea cup Yorkie, when we got him we were told his parents were big Yorkies!

I walk a 4-year-old German Shepherd female. She lives with some old people that can't walk her, and I walk her once a day for 25 minutes.

The problem is, whenever she sees another dog, she barks and barks and barks! She jumps and lunges too. In the park, when she meets another dog she's only a bit aggressive in playing. Other dogs and dog owners are scared of her, and though I try to discipline her (a tug on her chain, a firm no, even a little shove), she may shut up but she keeps on doing it when she sees another dog. I don't think she means any harm at all; she's excitable.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to stop her barking? Any methods or products you use (not on the expensive side, please)? Thanks!
