Good news - he likes you.
Bad news - your stuff is in danger. Put it behind closed and latched doors. Try spraying things with Bitter Apple (you can get it at the pet store) or sprinkling them with cayenne pepper. Some dogs ignore the new flavorings and chew anyway.
Hiding the shoes may make it a game for him.
Whenever you catch him with a shoe in his mouth, take it away, tell him not to chew it, and give him a toy. Then, in your relief that he's destroying his own stuff, tell him he's a good boy. Try to find toys to chew on that he may find more interesting than your boring old shoes - my dog likes tennis balls.
Good luck!

I have a yellow labrador retriever as well, which is now 6 years old. Now I am not an abusive owner, however, you must show your dog who is boss. Lay the dog on its back and hold its mouth closed with your hand for a full minute looking directly into its eyes, not letting it move or get away from you. Then when you catch the dog eating your shoes, hit the dog with the shoes relatively authoritative (I know it's cruel, but sometimes you have too). Now, I'm not advocated that you beat your dog for everything it does, but just like a child, a dog must be guided in it's actions, especially from a young age. Play with your dog, but when it does something it shouldn't, tell it "bad dog" in a serious voice and point at it. Then don't play with it for the rest of the day. Simple things like this will mould this dog into the perfect family companion, such as my dog now. She never bites, doesn't go to the washroom in the house, asks to be let out when need be, doesn't chew on anything, does a hand full of tricks, and gets treated like a queen because she's such a good dog (and I know she loves it - espcially the treats).

When your puppy is free in your house, make sure you are always supervising him so you can correct this kind of behavior before it gets out of hand. When you can't watch him, crate him. If you need help learning how to train him, take him to obedience school. If you catch him eating flipflops again take them away, tell him no, and offer him a toy of his own. My puppy (8 months old) has never destroyed anything in my house because of supervision, training, and having plenty of his own toys.

Puppies like to chew on things because they are teething. The best thing to do is to get him plenty of chewing toys something like a flipflop, bones, and such. My lab pup is also the same, he chews on everything he can find!! magazines, newspapers, flipflops, a bag of grass seeds. DOnt ask me how he got a hold of it. i dont even know! But anyways, just keep an eye out on him. He's just a baby. =)

hide yours better. Put them up out of reach.
I have a labradoodle puppy - 7 months now. I also have a pool, so I know you want to wear flip flops around outside, and take them off when inside. I have to put mine up on a shelf (4' high or so) that's right by the backdoor, or she'll find them before I do.
Spoil your puppy with chew toys. That helps a lot too.

Better hiding spots mixed with Bitter Apple or some other non-poisonous substance that tastes bad. You can find Bitter Apple at many pet stores, You just spray it on your shoe, dog eats shoe, dog gets nasty taste dog never eats shoes again (it might take a few trials). Although some dogs like bitter apple, so it might not work.

He's just teething probably, just give him a hard toy (to develop the gums) and a soft toy(for him to play w/) and put your flip flops on a shelf that it cant reach
good luck!

sprinkle chili powder or something like that on your shoes or lightly put something like lemon juice on your shoes for a while. Something that can't be seen on the shoes, but the dog will taste it and find it gross.

Soudns like he really likes the texture and possibly your smells. He sounds like he is teething. Buy him some toys that are similar in texture and HIDE those flip flops!

Since puppies don't have thumbs and can't open closets... Maybe you should try putting your shoes away and getting your puppy some puppy toys to chew..
