I own three of them.
Positives:
Highly intelligent, easy to train, lovable, fun, active, friendly, non-aggressive, excellent with people and other dogs, loyal, good watch dogs, obedient, willing to work and please.
Cons:
Can be stubborn, food obsessive, prone to dirty habits such a poo eating, can be OVER friendly.
Overall though, absolutely wonderful dogs. I wouldn't be without one.

I've worked with a lot of labs. Here is a list of words/phrases that I have found that generally describe them:
goofy
heavy
exciteable
loyal
allergic (as in many labs have skin allergies)
bouncy
not bright but not totally dumb
happy
big
need lots of exercise
love to eat, many can become overweight
overbred (because they are such a wanted breed)
want to be a part of all aspects of your life
generally good family pet, but due to their bouncy nature I'd be cautious around small kids
playful
hours & hours of fetch
needs/loves lots of training
Wants you around. For the most part, a lab wouldn't do well if you're gone most of the day.
Because there are so many labs and lab mixes out there that are looking for homes, I would strongly recommend getting a rescue dog. You can find TONS of labs and lab mixes, both puppies and adults alike, at www.petfinder.com
I had an older lab mix for 4 years before he died this last feb. Other than his constant shedding he was the best dog we ever had. I really miss him!
Take care, and good luck.
PS: Don't forget to spay/neuter!!!!!!!!!!!

Labs are playful, smart, and loving. They come in tan, brown, or black color. They love to swim since they are "gun dogs" in another words, they were used as a waterfowl hunting dogs. They have a powerful tail like that of an otter. Their coat is short, smooth and shiny. Despite their size, they are not the most protective guard dogs made on earth cuz they are just too friendly! They make such a great companion! I also gave you a site where it listed all the info. about labs. =)
