I live in an apartment and have 2 small dogs (chihuahua, and papillion). They urine on the doggy pads most of the time but occassionally they might go on the carpet. I try to clean it if i see it but sometimes it is hard to see because of the carpet color. Is this dangerous for my family? Is it dangerous to breathe or only touch?

I want to get a chihuahua puppy. Would it make a good pet with a 12 yo child, an over-friendly small dog and two adults.

PS: The dog loves other dogs. i let my bird out while the dog was in and he didnt take any notice, even when the bird was on the floor next to him. he wouldnt hurt a fly.

I have been hearing a dog accross the road barking constantly for the last few days, it is starting to sound desparate. We havent seen any sign of the human occupant of the house for at least four days. Starting to wonder crazy things like has she died in there. The dog is really barking, non stop. All night for like four hours straight taking a short break and starting again, done this the last three nights in a row and has started again tonight. Do you think this is cruelty to animals, the animal has nowhere to pee and poo etc, may have run out of food and water. I dont know, where or when the owner is gone/coming back. What should I do, dob them into the RSPCA or Police, or do nothing?

My 11 1/2 yr old blk. lab back legs gave way. He was on Rimadyl for his Arthritis for mostly his front legs. He does not seem to be in pain but can't move with out help.

I been told by the Vet, I should consider putting him down because the way he is there no quality of life, the Vet has said this is in his spine which is making his back legs not function, but he seems not to be in pain.

I don't think a dog-cart (wheelchair) is the answer for him since his front legs are really not that strong they support him but he has Arthritis in those too.

I help him to do his business he lyes mostly in the same place all day until i take him out.

Any suggestions?

Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year:
6-8 million (HSUS estimate)
Number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters each year:
3-4 million (HSUS estimate)
Percentage of dogs in shelters who are purebred:
25% (HSUS estimate)

Knowing that 3-4 MILLION cats/dogs are euthanized by shelters each year, breeders, how can you justify purposely bringing more animals into the world? People who buy from breeders, how can you justify financially SUPPORTING people who contribute to the overcrowding of shelters and the euthanization of perfectly healthy, well mannered animals?

My Dog pees on herself. When I take her out to walk, she sits a little, lets her pee go and then gets up as she is peeing, she walks while she pees and I can see it hitting the back of her legs....
It is really quite disgusting, and I am getting tired of washing her everytime I finish walking her.
Are all female dogs like this? Pee on themselves? Or just this one? how can I stop her from peeing on herself in the furture?
What is wrong with her?
Please Help!

yet another incident, this time in Ireland of a child mauled by rottweilers. All I ever see on Y/A are people going on about how great pets are, yet we continually see "pets" attacking our children and animal lovers say nothing. Do you guys think this is acceptable?

When I first got her it was the dead of winter and she couldn't take the cold. I enjoy the outdoors (walk, jog, bike) and would like for her to join me to keep me company but she is constantly chasing and barking at everyone or thing that comes past along with pulling on me. I don't want to hurt her or let her get hurt by another dog or person on a bike. Please help.
