Male dogs will continue to "mount" even after being altered. My two female labs did the same thing to each other. The vet said it was a way to assert their dominance to each other. It had nothing to do with hormones since they are both spayed and have no organs to produce hormones. My mother in law has two dachshunds and they too both "hump" each other. She uses a spray bottle on them and it has seemed to curb it. Her vet said to discipline them with a spray bottle or a metal container of pennies. Try to disctract them when they do it. I don't know why dogs do this. In my 30 years of life, I've only seen these 4 dogs do this. I've never owned another dog that's done it. Now that I'm down to one lab and one manchester terrier, neither of them do it. Thank god! It's embarrassing when company comes over.

Dogs will not try to mate when they are fixed. In animals that are fixed, they may still 'hump' each other as a display of dominance. Males and females of any age or breed will sometimes do this. If they do, there's nothing you can really do about it, but they won't hurt each other or actually try to mate while they're doing it, so don't worry.

Females, once fixed, will not go into heat, but males may still try to hump - not necessarily as a mating urge, but as a dominance display. I have also seen a fixed female hump a male dog as a dominance display.

A stud dog causes a few problems. From marking, attaking other dogs, wanting to mount anything, to cancer. If a dog is "fixed"... then those problems are taken away. Yes a dog can still get cancer even after he's fixed, but it happens less often and not till near the end of his long life.

it would be best to get your male done at 5-6 months or as soon as possible as some of the hormones are in the brain and not taken CARE of in the fixing.
If a female is also fixed between the age of 5-6 months they won;t have heat.
humping can also be a sign of dominance so it may happen but nothing can happen.

Female dogs cant go into heat if they have no uterus BUT dont count on either of them not to hump. I have a mini female doxie that has been spayed for years and she humps my male.

dogs don't "give off heat" a female has a heat cycle.
the longer you wait to neuter him the higher he is at risk for cancer later in life. if the female isn't done before her first heat, her risk of cancer increases by 50%.
Even after neutering, hormones may remain in his system for up to 2 months & yes, dogs have become pregnant by males recently neutered.
you need to have him done now, there is no reason to wait.

"Humping" is not related to altered/unaltered dogs (males and/or females). Humping is a dominant behavior.
