I live in an apartment and have 2 small dogs (chihuahua, and papillion). They urine on the doggy pads most of the time but occassionally they might go on the carpet. I try to clean it if i see it but sometimes it is hard to see because of the carpet color. Is this dangerous for my family? Is it dangerous to breathe or only touch?

Dog urine contains ammonia. It is not a health hazard unless there is a lot of it. You may consider renting a steam cleaner or you could buy a little one for around $40. http://www.bissell.com/images/Products/17158-L.gif ☺

Dog urine is dangerously smelly, but not a health hazzard to breathe. I would suggest maybe cleaning the carpet with one of those bissell type machines monthly to avoid the smell, and any possible health hazzards relating to accidents on the carpet. They also make an enzyme cleaner that does a really good job. It is called Nature's Miracle and I use it frequently.

Not dangerous just a little gross...not to mention people that come to your house "will" smell it and be grossed out but most people are to polite to say anything to you.. The odor of urine is a repulsive thing and you might lose out on any visitors especially if its getting worse.... maybe you should try working on getting them to go outside.... or crate them so they wont go on the carpet when you are not home... then supervise closely when you are at home so they wont go on the carpet.....good luck, hope this helps...smile

No, basically the scent of slightly urine won't harm you, yet a great buildup of ammonia in a poorly ventilated area will. lots of dogs rescued from puppy generators finally end up with eyes popping out of their sockets and stuff do to the bright stages of ammonia created with the aid of all their festering waste. --- You do have a topic if the residing house smells like urine. you would be able to desire to commence confining that puppy extra perfect till you're confident it incredibly is housetrained.

something like that no but it would be if not taken care of at all.
like horders you see on tv tha have MANY animals and dont' clean them at all or very little.
urine does have amonia in it and if left and collects it can be very dangerous and unhealthy but what you are describing no there is no problem.
