Any dog kept in a cage all day will be bursting with energy, and probably frustration, and will burst out of the cage once opened with unbridled enthusiasm - wouldn't you? She's pleased to see you and to be out of there! The best thing for you to do is immediately take her somewhere where she can run and sniff around, and work off some of that energy, and to get her mind going - dogs get very bored when locked up for long periods. Also, when you let her out, as tempting as it might be to make a fuss of her, just open her cage, say hello, then walk away and do something else for a while, ignoring her completely. Let her run around & sniff etc, and once she's less excited, then give her a calm, quiet greeting and show her some attention. It's important that you wait until she's calmed down, and that you also approach & interact with her calmly too - if you get excited & make a fuss, she will too, and then it won't work.

You're doing the right thing. When she comes out, she is bursting with energy and very excited to see you. You can try to not interact with her while she is excited, and pet her/give her a tiny treat when she is calm.

But the smell of your feet may be reward enough for her.

However, the excitement of a young puppy is one of their charms. She will grow out of it very quickly.

I have a Golden Retriever who was roughly the same way. Now, 6 years later. He opens one eye when I come home, but he is excited to see other people ....

So, don't let other people reward her for gettting overly excited.

My puppy does this whenever I get home too, except she's not crated. My vet says to ignore her totally, don't even speak to her to tell her to calm down. I did this and 2 weeks later she's definately not so bad anymore. it was hard at first as she did get worse for a week and started to pee, but now she knows that she doesn't get any attention at all until she calms right down and sits still.

ok this is normal but if you feel that she is being to excited let her out and dont pet her till shes calmed down sounds mean but you telling your dog you want calm behavior. after awhile she will get the hang that she wont get love till shes calm.
