Im out of town on vacation so taking him to the vet is the last thing i want to do. Is there any thing i can do to help him, any advice will be greatly apprectiated.

Dear Alli: I'm sure you did-not mean to leave your pup in the car, in the heat? But at any rate you need to get him back to his or her normal self. What I do is take a slightly chilled towel or small blanket and wrap the puppy in it for about 5 minute interval's. this will not only help the little one but will stop the heaves.! My dog has had the same thing done to her by my friend. We were both running errand's and she forgot she had my girl??? So immediately I put a cool towel around her and started 5 minute interval's. This took about an hour for her too feel much better! But my girl weight's 136Pd's. You can call what your pup has which is very common for both people and animal's(heat stroke)! So by your dog's size- a cool towel not freezing and wrap for a few minutes, but watch your dog carefully-Since I do-not have little dog's-I cannot tell you how long you should keep the puppy in a cool towel? So please watch your pup and next time always keep a cool towel or blanket in the car when it is hot outside. Bucket with cool water -immerse the towel or blanket in and if you must leave your pup in the car. Allow the pup to lay on it. It will keep the body temperature at the normal level to allow the pup to maintain his or her own body temperature. Good Luck! I know you are not a bad owner! But like some of us we just get to involved with life and forget we do have other precious cargo!!!!

1. You NEVER leave ANY dog in a car for ANY amount of time.

2. Your dog needs a vet regardless of what you WANT to do.

3. In the meantime keep him indoors in air conditioning and try to get him to drink water or unflavored pedialyte. If he won't drink at all on his own, get an oral medication syringe (you can pick them up from any pharmacy for like $1) and feed him water carefully through that- don't choke him.

4. Don't force him to eat, he probably feels awful and doesn't want to. Just make sure he's getting water and he'll eat when he's ready.

1) Since it is a Chi and they're such tiny creatures, try putting a cool wet washrag on it's tummy for about 2 min. Then wrap it in a warm blanket for about 5 min.
2) Repeat #1. Do this for about 30 min. and see how your baby does. If it's feeling better, it'll probably sleep in the blanket for awhile. Check it often.
3) Don't force it to eat or drink.
4) Please try to at least call your vet. S/he may have different ideas than I do. :)
Good luck!

Human heat exhaustion is treated with cooling and water and rest for a few days. Heat stroke is different, it is more serious, and people need to go for medical attention. I think they do the same for dogs.
Now, if his temp is down all you can do is wait and pray he recovers with no organ damage. Do sprinkle a bit of salt on his food to encourage drinking.
Cars and dogs are not a good combination.

If I were you I would call the Vet. If he is having seizures, it could be something bad. Hope the little guy will be ok. I have a little black and white chihuahua named Gadget. He is about 3 years old.

i would expect a kind of heat exhaustion from such a small dog but if you've taken it to the vet then theres not much more you can do about it.
