I just got him 2 days ago and he is about 6 months old. He was at a kennel before I had him. Help!!

You will see a pattern of behaviour just before he walks through the poo. Know when he is done, then pick him up and move him to another spot near his poo (where he can't get to it). You bag it up and praise him or give him treats.
He does not get a praise or treat each time you miss and he does get to walk into his poo. I suspect he picked this habit up at the kennel. It's probably stress related too.
It won't take long for him to get the picture.

coming from a kennel he is used to 'living' with his poop. When he poops, pick him up praise him and put him down nearby. it wont take long for him to get out of this habit.

Keep him on leash. When he poops, tighten the leash. If he tries to walk through it scold him, and pull him away sharply.

clean it up right away and wash his paw off this is how they get worms by stepping in there poopy and licking it.
