Cats are so picky that their food is very strong smelling. It is BAD for dogs to eat cat food. It can make them fat, make their coat greasy and cause kidney problems. Put the cat food up out of the dog's reach. I've also used a cat door to keep the dogs out of the cat's room, food and litter.
For now I feed my cat in a place my puppies can't reach.

Your dog too?! I believe it has to do with the fact that it does smell and taste good to them. I also think it has to do with the fact that your dog knows its the "cat" food, and they like what they are not supposed to have. I also believe your dog gets satisfaction out of eating the cats food. The street goes both ways, b/c my cats also enjoy eating the dogs food. Crazy pets!
As an additional tip, to keep our dog from eating cat food, we have the cat food dish up on a stool, there is an adjacent stool next to it, so the cats have no trouble jumping up on the stool and enjoying their food while the dog looks on with envy.

Because cat food tends to be very fragrant and flavorful. Most dogs love it. But don't let him eat it. There are nutrients in cat food that dogs don't need, and it's *much* higher in calories. Cat food = fat dog.

dogs like almost anything...but cat food is way higher in animal protein than dog food, and has more additives. By "additives" i mean that cats need some substances, including some minerals and a couple of enzymes that dogs don't need at all.
the biggest risk in feeding your dog cat food would be urinary crystals...which are really a big deal. SO, don't do it.

We had this problem with our dog. The vet told us that dogs liked it because it had many more nutrients than dog food does and that made it more appealing. Our dog wasn't getting enough nutrients with its food alone so she moved on to cat food... maybe that's the problem?

It tastes good to him/her. Dogs eat anything.
But, do not let your dog eat the cat food. It is generally too high in protein and fats. This can cause many health issues and cause the dog to be overweight.

Dog's will eat almost anything. It is important to feed things that are not harmful to the dogs. Most owners neglect this and let their dogs eat anything and later the poor dog suffers. Because cat food has a higher salt, fat and protein content. Please don't let your dog eat the cat food as it doesn't have the right nutrition in it that dogs need.

It's like candy to them, but because it's very high protein, it's very bad for dogs, and can cause kidney problems. Try to put the catfood dishes out of the dogs reach.
