We have a 3 yr old westie that we acquired around 3months ago. We know little about his past, he is generally good natured, but growls and snaps if you mess with his bed which he's very possessive over, or if you pull him by his collar- something which my husband does rarely when the dog needs to be moved for some reason e.g to give him his ear drops. He also may flinch if you go to touch the top of his head, so we're thinking he was probably hit at some point in the past. This evening we needed to move him and he wouldn't be moved and bit my husband, not severe, and he is definately upset by the incident.
My question is, where do we go from here. He is not a bad dog, and I want to help him, and at the same time, I need to be assured that he is not a general risk to anyone.
Please help.

I recently got a yorkshire terrier from a breeder. He gave us this form and we thought nothing of it. But yesterday my puppy who is 11 weeks old became very ill. He was so limp and couldn't pick his head up. Long story short, the breeder took him to the vet and declined bloodwork, x-rays, and to stay over night even though the doctors report said to stay. So my mom, her friend, and I were looking over this form and we came across that it said Clarksburg. Clarksburg is a very, very small town in NJ with absolutely nothing [its like a farm town]. but then we came across something even more disturbing, his fax number was the same as the fax number on his card. Is this normal? or is this a scam? And the sad thing is that we don't know what the breeder might be doing with the puppy. Please if anyone could help, it will be greatly appreciated!

She growls at my dog whenever my other dog wants attention and has recently started snapping at her when she goes to pick up her own things and my dog is scared of her. I say my dog because the scared one is my 1st foster dog whom I'm adopting & the 2nd is another foster dog who is here temporarily. They are usually fine playing in the yard but in the house when it comes to her bed, toys, treats or my attention she gets angry at the 1st pup.

I am currently a proud owner of a 4 year-old dog. I was told by the owner that he is a Pekingese but he looks more like a white Chow Chow to me. He has come in contact with other dogs and always barks, runs away, or tries to bite them. He barkes at all the other dogs but runs away when they invade his "personal space." I have owned him since he was a puppy and he will only be friends with strangers if they scratch him on his belly. Everytime my cousin's bigger dog tries to play with him he goes into a corner and tries to bite the other dog. Please help.

10 Yr old neutered male mated with my unspayed female dog while I was in the shower, I came out, and I didn't know what to do. I yelled at the male and after a minute he unstuck himself, but the female was going crazy, running around the room, whining, licking herself... frantic... Did I do something bad? Yes, I know I should have her spayed.

I have a 9 week old yorkie-poo, and she seems to hate her dry food. I have a big bag of Eukanauba and she doesn't eat it, it seems that she only eats it when she is extremely hungry. We did buy another bag of puppy dry food, but she doesn't want that either. I do feed her cesars and the eukanauba with the gravy and she loves them but they are expensive and the big bags of dry food is economical. Any ideas?

I took my dog to the vet due to 48 hours of diarrhea. The vet has taken him off food for 24 hours. The problem is that I was using food to get him to drink more so he wouldn't dehydrate. I was dropping a half dozen pieces of dry food in his water dish, which always gets him to drain the water dish. Without that trick, I'm worried he'll dehydrate as he hasn't shown much interest in water. He also doesn't seem to care about ice cubes in or out of the water dish. Any other tricks to get a dog to drink more?

Sometimes if you walk in a house you can immedaitly smell that there is a dog. Is this with certain breeds, or is it that they just need to be bathed more?

Most of them prefer pedigree's they have this myth that pedigree certified breeds are more superior than stray dogs, but on the contrary most heroic acts have been done by mixed breed & stray/orphan dogs. The stray dogs are more street smart & have the hunting capabilities & much better metabolism than pedigree dogs, and seldom fall sick. So adopt homeless orphan dogs & give them a chance.

My dog has been hacking for months. He's gone to the vet several times, had his blood levels checked. They put him on an antibiotic at one time and it seem to work for about a week and then it came back.

The vet said it is due to allergies and that he has dripping from his nose into his throat making him cough. The antihistemine they gave him didn't help so I began giving him benadryl which at least helps him sleep soundly at night. He also itches a lot too.

Any ideas of what I can give him to clear it up? Or are there any vet techs who can off hand recommend what I should suggest to the vet since they sure haven't helped clear it up either and I don't want to keep spending money if they aren't even fixing the problem.

It just started pouring rain over her where I live and there's very strong wind pounding on the door as well as lightning and thunder and my dog is terrified. He's a labrador and golden retriever mix, as if it matters. Any suggestions on how I can calm him down?

I am at my girlfriend's house quite a bit. She has a dog that is quite ill-tempered and not friendly toward most people. She doesn't bite, but if someone who she does not know well tries to touch her, she exposes her teeth and growels. However, whenever I bend down to give her a scratch behind the ear, she rolls over onto her back with her feet in the air. I don't know what else to do, so I give her a rub on her stomach and she stays put as long as I'm there. It the stomach rub what she is looking for? I find this odd because there are only about 2 other people (my girlfriend and her sister) who are allowed to even touch her.
