i agree with you 100% it stupid to go buy a dog from a puppy mill. when you can go save a stray dog from a shelter that has proberly never had any love or a good family. I have 2 adopt mix breed dogs and would not change them to no pedigree certified breed dog. I think animals should not even be sold they are like humans that just need love and attention and most of them dont get that and it makes me sick. If people would stop selling people would adopt. i have saved alot of animals and gave them good homes without selling or taking them to a shelter. i just saved 2 kittens from going to the pound...but my oldest dog i saved her from my friends father he would hit her yell at her and just not feed her....i know its wrong but i went to his house while he was gone and took her and i have had her for 3 years now and she is my best friend! so go adopt it feels good to help these animals that have no foice so be there foice for them........some of them are really good dogs and just need help with a little thing but still loving dogs. i would not pay for a dog for 500 dollars or anything. It will help the puppy mills and pet stores who sell animals. i cant even go in a dog shelter it makes me sad to see them in a cage...and then i want to take them all home but i know i cant.....i have 3 dogs and 3 cats......thanks for a intersting question

People do buy homeless dogs and puppies all the time, as a matter of fact it is the "in" thing right now. Your second comment is only an opinion because their have been heroic acts documented by pure bred dogs as well. Yes stray dogs have street smarts and hunting capabilities because they were after all living in the street, which of course can cause behavioral problems in the home. Your metabolism theory is also just an opinion, as is the comment about strays having less sickness. Talk to several vets in your area and get true facts before making false claims. The only reason people can claim mutts are healthier is because people do not have mutts tested for genetic deseases or orthopedic problems so there is no way to track the illnesses of mutts, where as, the owners of pure bred dogs do get the health test and screenings done so a record is kept on pure bred dogs.
In spite of what you may believe people buy pure bred dogs because they want to know what they are getting in terms of temperament and size and for the record if you get a well bred dog from a responsible breeder the chances of the breed of choice having genetic or orthopedic problems are very small.
To me it should not matter where or what type of dog is aquired, the important thing that should be realized is that dogs should not be considered disposible and people should take the time to train, socialize and take care of the dog they choose because that would greatly reduce the amount of dogs that are in the shelters.

YOu know what is more amazing, people want pure bred dogs, like, myself, I love German Shepherds. Now my last puppy, Gunny, I did get from a breeder, but that was simply because I checked the local German Shepherd Rescue and they didn't have anything, and I can't really drive all the way to Texas to get one like a friend of mine did. Even if I did drive to Texas, I wouldn't return, but that is beside the point. What most people don't realize is that there is a rescue group for just about every major breed in every state. All you have to do is go to petfinder.com and you can locate the breed you want. Best part is, most states make it a law that the rescue groups MUST spay or neuter the dogs before they are adopted out, or within one yr, depending on the age of the dog. One more thing, most people that get papered dogs think that they can make a quick buck by breeding or studing there dogs out. They don't realize that there is a lot more involved then just putting a male and female together. IF they were to research their breed of choice, they could find the actual breeding standards.

I agree. We have a lab mix and a collie/shepard mix and they are the best dogs ever. We take them to the dog park and they are much better tempered and cuter (in my humble opinion) than a lot of the purebreds. I also have volunteered with several animal adoption groups and the numbers of dogs that need homes are staggering. If people would consider mix breeds or even purebreds from shelters and then spay or neuter their pets, there would not be nearly as many homeless or neglected animals.
I urge everyone I know to adopt shelter animals. Mutts seems to live longer and don't suffer from a lot of the genetic diseases that purebreds have and can be the most itneresting dogs there are (we have spent hours debating the percentage of this versus that breeds that my dogs are).
Adopt a shelter dog - purebred or mutt, you can save two lives, the one who you adopt and the one who takes its place. You will find these dogs need love and attention and will love you to pieces for saving them.

Agreed.
Some people think they can better predict what they are going to be getting (temperament, size, coat, etc) with a purebred.
Others want a purebred dog for the snob or status factor.
Given this, I find it hilarious (and sad) that folks are willing to pay out the wazoo for so-called designer breeds that are not breeds at all, but are in reality mixes. Again the snob factor comes into play but you REALLY can't tell what characteristics the animals will have - pretty much a crapshoot as to temperament, size, coat, etc...

You answered your own question. Most people want pedigree and pure bred dogs.
We have two dogs, both were homeless. They are both very loving and overall very good dogs. Both are mixed breed, but that doesn't matter to us. When we decide to get another one it will be from the animal shelter.

I agree with you however I have a purebred and adopted a homeless dog. Dogs from shelters usually have a lot of baggage and bad habits not to mention the fleas etc. It took me a long time to deflea my old adopted mutt and she had a lot of problems that also took a lot of time and patience to over come. I know where I live the shelters charge a lot for the animals and I realize that they have to but I really think that if they charged less that they would be able to have a lot more of these poor critters find good homes. The most expensive is $243.00 and that's a lot for a dog that you know little or nothing about.

Umm, they do! on a daily basis.. yet i think of you think of, that truly everyone who needs a dogs could desire to bypass to a preserve. which will in no way ensue. human beings like specific breeds, and the dogs you hit upon on the preserve, 9 out of 10 are huge dogs. many human beings don't choose a huge dogs. And as for doggies, I even have in no way considered a domestic dog that replaced into no longer likely to be huge.. I see loads of lab mixed dogs and doggies, and plenty and many pitts at out county preserve. many human beings prefer to purchase their dogs because of the fact they then understand the place it got here from, this is historical past, this is mothers and fathers historical past. it particularly is substantial to particularly some us. I even have had many preserve dogs, and purely stored a pair because of the fact the rest became out to have intense themes i replaced into no longer in a position to handle on the time. I even have additionally performed rescue and had many dogs in my abode, re-homed plenty, an plenty had to be PTS considering that they had intense themes (chew, and so on). Rescue is an exceptionally no longer elementary "job", attempt it, and that i advise have 10 dogs on your place with some themes then come decrease back and ask returned why no person adopts them! and not all dogs being offered are "clothier" dogs.. A chihuahua isn't a clothier dogs, neither is a Yorkie and so on.. A clothier dogs is those dogs being mixed jointly that merely make no experience, like a beagle and poodle, or a puggle. those are so referred to as clothier dogs. some mixes have been around for generations, like the cockapoo, been around because of the fact the 1950's! Peekapoos, comparable element been around for some years. yet human beings have the dazzling in this united states to purchase something they choose, no remember if or no longer this is a dogs, or a vehicle. And maximum take that dedication heavily.. maximum dogs interior the shelters are mixed dogs, mixed like the pals dogs have been given to my dogs style of element..

I agree with you!!! I think those kind are the ones that are the best because they are in dying need of love, effection, attention. I wish breeding would stop and people would go into the shelters and see how there is so much there to offer. I wish I could adopt them all!!
