I recently got a yorkshire terrier from a breeder. He gave us this form and we thought nothing of it. But yesterday my puppy who is 11 weeks old became very ill. He was so limp and couldn't pick his head up. Long story short, the breeder took him to the vet and declined bloodwork, x-rays, and to stay over night even though the doctors report said to stay. So my mom, her friend, and I were looking over this form and we came across that it said Clarksburg. Clarksburg is a very, very small town in NJ with absolutely nothing [its like a farm town]. but then we came across something even more disturbing, his fax number was the same as the fax number on his card. Is this normal? or is this a scam? And the sad thing is that we don't know what the breeder might be doing with the puppy. Please if anyone could help, it will be greatly appreciated!

to the person who said that he was full of *****, thats what i thought. when i googled it nothing really came up, so i figured that it was fake. we tried calling the humane society but they are closed. like we went to see our puppy before he dies, and the guy hasn't called or answered. and is it normal for a breeder to give shots and put an ivy in a dog?

so my family and i just called the American Kennel Association, Inc. number that was on the certificate. No one answered but the voice mail voice was the same as the breeders voice. And the puppy is still sick. when my mom called the breeder she heard him whimpering in the background. i think that we will put him down. also my mom talked to the vet and the reason why the dog didn't stay overnight was because "finincial issues". that is BS! i'm sorry but just thought i would let you know

There is an organization called the American Kennel Club, and that is how through a process a dog can become AKC registered

There is an American Kennel Club. That's the big organization that assigns "papers" for pedigree dogs and sets the standards for breeds. There is no recognized American Kennel Association, Inc. to my knowledge. When I googled it I got nothing. There is an American Boarding Kennels Assoc.

Did you give your puppy back to him? Are you sure he actually took him to the vet? Insist on either getting the puppy or your money back, and if he refuses contact the Police and file a complaint.

I don't understand what Clarksburg has to do with your puppy. It sounds like he owns property of some sort in Clarksburg. Didn't you go there to pick up your puppy when you bought him?

It is always a good idea to see the place the puppy has been raised and see the mother and the father if he is on the premises before purchasing a puppy. It is possible your breeder is a puppy mill guy and if your puppy was this sick, he may have a whole lot of sick dogs on his property. You may want to report the incident to animal control or the SPCA in Clarsburg. They may know something about this person.

When you get your next puppy, first, please consider getting a dog or puppy through rescue. www.Petfinder.com is a wonderful resource where you can find all kinds of dogs (both purebred and mixed breeds) that need you to love them.

If you do decide to get another dog from a breeder, be very careful that you're not adopting from a puppy mill. A puppy mill is someone who breeds dogs for profit rather than for quality. There are usually a lot of puppies who are inadequately socialized, and as in your case, may be seriously ill or have genetic problems that won't show up until later.

An acquaintance of mine adopted a purebred pup from a breeder who breeds way too many dogs. She paid a lot of money for that puppy ($1400) and it was fine for 2 years. Then they discovered that it had a heart defect and died. Dogs die of heart defects, but in this case it turned out that other puppies in the same litter died of the same thing... as had their mother.

OMG why on earth didn't you take the dog to the vet? the "breeder" declined all treatment so I can't imagine the puppy lived through the nite. a reputable breeder will reimburse you if the dog is sick & your contract calls for it . They do NOT take the puppy themselves

the breeder will probably replace the puppy with another & hope you don't notice. in a couple days you will get a 'miricle" recovered healthy puppy. unless they have all died.

this is a crappy back yard breeder. even if the papers say AKC - that is no guarantee of a healthy puppy - BYB's & mills all have AKC dogs. it is just a registry

there is no American Kennel Assoc - at least not a reputable registry of that name. there are many substandard registries used by puppy mills & byb's.

I'm so sorry but I'm afraid there is no good news here

Call the breeder and ask what is going on, You paid for a yorky which I'm sure wasn't cheap, any good breeder will remedy the problem. there is an American kennel club and an American kennel association for breeders but that doesnt mean that your papers are not a scam. It does sound wrong that the fax numbers are the same on both papers.

Good question. God only knows. Anyone who answers yes to your question probably sells puppies out of playpens at street corners. We couldn't find one during Katrina to help with the 700 animals we had to save. I think you can join if you have a piece of cardboard and a marker.

You have been scammed big time..You need to report this to consumer affairs/better business bureau.

You also need to get this puppy back and seek your own vet advice (if you already paid for him).

There is an American Kennel Association and you should be able to find their contact information in the phone book or online (google it). It sounds kind of "fishy"; hopefully you will get your puppy back healthy and soon. Perhaps they will give you another puppy, though. Keep on it and get ahold of AKC, they need to know what is going on!
