They are medium shedders, relatively clean, and they have little or no doggy odor. They don't need to be bathed often unless, of course, they've gotten into something, which
they're known to do. I own three of them and I can tell you from my experience they have no odor.

A lot of hounds do have a distinctive smell, whether they are bathed frequently or not. But dogs like that should spend more time outside, be kept off the furniture so their odor doesn't penetrate the upsholstery, and if they lay around on the carpet, it must be vacuumed daily to remove the pet hair. Some people believe that eliminating grain from the dog food (that's hard to do, without buying special, expensive brands) eliminates the smell. I've never had an "indoor" hound dog, so I don't mind the smell. Generally, dachshunds don't suffer from this quite as much as some of the other hound breeds.

No Dachshunds usally do not smell like dog as much as other breeds. However they will roll in anything that smells(its a Doxie thing). Bathing once a month or so depending on weather. You probably are smelling his/her bed and toy they should be washed more often than the dog. A little Febrez (orange is my favorite) and no more smells. If the smell continues see your vet. GOOD LUCK

as a former Daschund owner, I can say with certainty that Daschunds have a particular odor. BUT... bath the little guy once a week and feed him the right diet and the smell will hardly be noticable - much of any smell (in humans or pets) is related to diet. Oh and keep his teeth clean.
Eat something with heavy garlic and see if you don't have smell a little

All dogs have an Oder. Some dogs have a stronger Oder than others. Oder's from your dog come from many things. Bathing your dog helps with eliminating the Oder, but to much bathing can lead the skin problems and other health issues.
Oder's also come from infections in your dogs ears, paws, eyes, and mouth. Cleaning the areas that your dogs frequent will help examples would be sleeping area, indoor play areas, carpets, furniture etc. etc.
Oder's also come from their diets as well. Food that your dog eats can lead to the Oder's that come from their oils of their skin. Remember dogs can not sweat, they release the heat and body toxins through their mouth and going potty so that also leads to Oder's.
Basically what I am tiring to say is that all dogs have Oder's, it is up to you as the owner to help keep the Oder controlled.

No the dog smell is due to not bathing the dog regularly. My best friend won't bathe hers and says it isn't good for their skin, but there's no excuse really when you can get specially formulated shampoos for them, - I gave her a shampoo when I last came to Toronto, but I don't know if she's used it. I would like dogs a lot more if they were bathed, but very few seem to be, even though there are dogs that enjoy being bathed

I've had doxies since I was 5 yrs old (I'm 64 now!) and have never had one with any kind of odor. That's one of the many things I love about them. They do need their ears cleaned, as most dogs with long ears will get an odor if the ears are dirty but other than that--NO doggy odor.

Having owned so many mini, red, smooth coat dachshunds that I can't remember all of their names, it is true, they do not have any doggy odor.
The person that answered that dachshunds do have an odor or smell should not be trusted, even though they claim to have owned one in the past, they can't even spell dachshund.

They just need to be bathed more. Also, the owner of the house that smells should consider cleaning more. Try some air fresheners and carpet cleaners or mopping.

It is all up to the people in charge of the smell of their homes. A dog will smell like a dog and a person's home will smell however badly or well they clean their home.
