I got 2 basset pups because i read they are very gentle and one of the best dogs to have with kids. The 7 week old pup is very sweet & does not growl or bite. The 8 week old growls and bites every time you try to pick her up and gets very mean. She does this when she's eating to. Will she out grow this? How do i stop her from acting like this?

We have a 12 week old Lab/Mix and she has discovered eating her own feces. Can anyone tell me why they do this and what we can do to deter her from doing it?

For the past 2days my dog has been sniffing & licking her belly more than usual(which is hardly anyway). I have checked her belly & there is no rash or anything that looks like its bothering her. Its just unusual behaviour for her. She is is in season & has been spayed. Any reason for this odd behaviour or is it just a silly thing?

I just want to get everyone's opinon on having a big dog in an apartment. I was told it was okay, as long as you took it out often, and to a dog park. Let me know!

He has been crate trained since he was 3 months old. We only put him in his crate at night. The remaining time he is allowed to move around most of the house and can ring a bell on the door to go outside any time he needs or wants to. WE have about 1/2 acre back yard for him to run and play. We play ball/fresbee with him regularly. The problem is after he goes into his crate (volentarily) & we shut it if we put our hand on the screen door he growls & becomes very aggressive. If we open the crate & let him out he becomes very submissive. He is not neudered & is becoming of breeding age. He is a beatiful yellow lab that we have considered breeding. However, we will not breed him & have him neudered if their is not a logical reason for this behavior. Any suggestions?

Our late dog was neglected at an irresponsible pet clinic,as a result,it passed away during wee hours and no staffs were around to monitor her condition. While the signboard outside wrote 24 HRS in huge lettering. We were informed only in the morning at about 9am when they opened their shop and found our dog to be dead.We wrote to AVA twice to investigate our case, but the result was disappointing and their investigation results were biased and claimed to be untrue, leading us to be disappointed in seeking their help anymore.Whats even better was that the clinic later took down the old signboard and change them to a small lettering of 24HR.We have not gotten over the grieve of our late dog and what we really wanted was only just a proper apology. After this incident,it made us realised that such people existed, they couldn't care much for the welfare of dog.Remember,be it canine or human,a life is a life.

hi. my dog is a german shepherd about 2 years old. about 2 months ago he started getting very thin. took him to the best vet in town. he did a test and figured out that he has hepatitis - his liver isnt working and therefore his food isnt digesting properly. ive been going to the vet for 2 months and he hasnt been able to fix him. he keeps getting thinner. he specifically isnt able to digest fats (something about his body not producing lypase enzyme)

what can i feed him and what steps can i take to get him better since obviously my vet is totally lost on what to do

Another attack on a member of the public by a Rotweiller recently. There have been a few attacks by Rotweillers over the past few months, and in quick sucession. I know that all dogs are capible of attacking, but some dogs are more dangerous than others. That's why the Government passed the Dangerous Dogs Act; to control the more dangerous breeds.

Thsi increase in attacks suggests to me that Rotweillers are dangerous breeds. I think they should be on the Dangerous Dogs act, but what do you think?

On Christmas day I went over to check on a mentally retarded gentleman, I do everyday. As I was leaving I was approached by a pure bred Weimaraner. He is about six months old and very close to a major Highway, I stopped and he jumped right in my truck. I drove around asking everyone if they knew whos dog it was. I had plans with my family so I took the dog home. After my company left, I got back in my truck and again looked for the owners. These people live about 7 miles from me. Finally I located a person who said where they thought the dog lived. When my daughter knocked on the door a man with a phone to his ear answered saying he was calling (not out looking) everyone to find the dog. He claimed his grandchild had let it out by mistake. I returned the dog without so much as a thank you. In all of my years I never felt bad about returning a dog but, this made me feel wary. Well, today as in two prior days the same dog was running around lose. Should I keep him and find a better home?

I have been looking at various toy breeds for quite some time, when I came across a Japanese Chin. I hear they are quiet, indoor dogs, that love to please their owners. I was wondering if anyone who has owned one (or been around one) how they are as pets and if they would make a good inside dog. I have no other pets.

I am getting kind of tired reading about "all those poor dogs, and it is the owners fault" and how "anyone who trains a dog in protection is a scumbag" just trying to show off their lack of self-esteem. Has anyone here EVER had a dog that was PROPERLY trained in protection work? If so, what kind of experience did they have with it?

The steps on my back porch are all icey and my dogs arent able to get down them or up them. I've been letting them out down stairs for the time being, but is it okay to put ice on the steps to melt the ice, or will that be unhealthy for my dogs? Thanks!
