Both Purina 1 and Proplan are GOOD foods. But,,, the low grade Purina foods are just that, low grade. So you are better off sticking to what you are using.

Purina is BAD food. It will give your bad a dog coat, they will eat more, they won't get the nutrience they need, they will poop more, and they won't stay as healthy, raising your vet bill.

First, feed your pet about HALF of what the bag says to feed them. If you feed them what the bag says you will make them fat unless they truly are running off all of that food.

Second, pay twice as much for a food where they will be full eating half as much. Make sure that the main ingredients are meat and not meat BYPRODUCTS, make sure that the first ingredients are not CORN because this has no nutrient value.

As for the puppy chow to adult switch, you can probably do that when they are 10 months and 1 yr 2 months, that way they will both come off of the food at the same time.

Invest a little more and you will get A LOT more back.

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and she eats Science Diet Large Breed formula. What you put into a dog comes out the other end. If you are putting crappy food in his mouth your going to get bigger "stuff" out the other end. By feeding good food your dog will digest it better and you'll see smaller "stuff".

Whenever someone gets a pet they need to do homework on what it truly costs to own a pet.

Well, you get what you pay for sometimes, and "garbage in = garbage out".
