Nature's Miracle product or baking soda and cider vinegar should do the trick. It's best to get all the smell out so the dog doesn't smell it and think it's an "approved" pee spot.

Natures Miracle worked the best for me. It is an enzyme cleaner that destroys the urine. But you need to know that it does NOT work overnight. It takes time and a number of applications before you get the urine and scent out completely. I would use my carpet cleaner and apply it, let it sit and soak in, then suck it up. I did this a few times, and then lightly spray the carpet and cover it with a laundry basket (to deter the dog from going there) and let it dry naturally. Remember, you have to get it out of the carpet and the padding underneath (if any). If you can roll up the carpet, cleaning the floor underneath will help too. Urine could soak into the wood floor and the scent will seep through again. You may not smell it, but your dog will. I kept applying it until I couldn't smell it anymore, then once or twice more just in case, better safe than sorry. It is available at most pet stores and the directions are on the bottle. Comes in many sizes.

Natures Miracle ALL the way!! We have two cats and a dog and this stuff has cleaned up everything to a small pee accident or kitty vomit. My husband and I swear by this stuff, just make sure to do a quick test of your carpet to make sure it won't take the color out. There is no bleech in this product, it is natural, but there is a disclaimer on the bottle. If I were you I'd get it in the spray bottle form and you can buy it @ Petco or Petsmart for about 10/12 $$. Best of luck!

What I use is one bottle hidrogen pexiode, mix in 1 tablespoon baking soda and one teaspoon dish soap. Pour it on the spot and watch it bubble.( do a little spot to check for fading. I have hunter green carpet and it didn't bother mine at all) Do not rub it in. I will leave a white residue but that comes right of with warm water. They pexiode kills the bacteria in the pee and the baking soda gets rid of the smell. Our puppy would not house train so i used this all over the house. thought we we're going to have to get rid of our carpet. But it works. when she was finally trained i just steamed cleaned. Good luck to you.

You need something that will neutralize it. A good mix of baking soda and water is a homemade method. Pet shops sell neutralizing sprays as well. Try sprinking baking soda and leaving it for a few hours and then vacuuming it up.
