The steps on my back porch are all icey and my dogs arent able to get down them or up them. I've been letting them out down stairs for the time being, but is it okay to put ice on the steps to melt the ice, or will that be unhealthy for my dogs? Thanks!

No, it's not safe. But there are salt products that are safe for dogs, children, and the environment. The one we use is called "Safe Paw" but there are others. You can get it at many pet stores or online.

The thing to remember is not that a product will be simply touching pets' paws, but that pets clean themselves by licking. So whatever you put onto the sidewalk, driveway, etc. will be getting into their mouths and swallowed. So poisoning is a risk, as is gastric distress from too much salt as well as all the other chemicals in that stuff.

Check out doggie safe ice melt @ Petco or Petsmart, we live in upstate NY and get pounded with ice and snow every winter and have found this product very effective. It IS a bit more pricey then the rock salt you can buy @ Home Depot, but for us the health and saftey of our dog is number 1. Hope this helps!

I'm sure that salt will not harm your dogs. The grit they put on roads is a mixture of grit and rock salt. Rock salt is often used for cattle licks, so there can be nothing poisonous in it. Household salt has been refined so is, if anything, less likely to contain impurities.

It would, of course, be a good idea to wipe or wash your dogs' paws, since you would not want the salt on your carpets.

decrease out the mayo, the grapes (Why might want to you feed a carnivore grapes? they don't feed lions and wolves grapes on the zoo, I assure you), the flour, the chicken broth, and the chocolate. That leaves you with chicken breast. yet do not dice it, canines have tooth completely designed for chewing their nutrients and do not want your help. yet chicken breast isn't a balanced nutrients regimen so upload in some heart, liver, gizzards, kidney, eco-friendly tripe and so on. upload a touch salmon oil for Omega 3 and six and tada. you'd be feeding your canines the healthiest selfmade nutrients regimen plausible, a raw (aka raw because, canines don't have thumbs, start up fires, nor do they cook dinner, nor are they developed (as we are) to eat cooked meat) prey modeled nutrients regimen!!!

we have the same problem what is most important is that you clean there paws when they come inside, when you don´t do that it could cause irritation to the skin between the toes other wise just make sure they don't try to eat the salt

Its not safe for them to eat or have on thier paws, even the brands that say they are pet safe. You should wipe down your dogs paws after they walk through salted walkways. They end up licking it off thier feet

I would be careful if you are using the blue stuff the may have dye in it but I wouldn't worry able the rock stuff it will only make them more thirsty so load up the water bowl.

I would imagine it isn't good for the dog, there are chemicals in that! But then again if you have a big dog it might not bother him.

its fine for them. if they have a cut on their paws it may sting them but it isn't poisonous, dogs, like us, can't eat too much salt but they also wouldn't try to, it burns them like it does us
