My 6 year old Golden Retriever has a very gentle nature around other dogs except when food is involved. She will play fine with any dog, but let food enter the picture and she becomes very miserable and aggresive. How can I break this habit ? It makes it very uncomfortable when I have to watch her every minute when out visiting in case someone brings out a treat. Any hints would be just great!!

We've had him for a week now and he's afraid of everything: he doesn't come when we call him (seems to think we're tricking him?), he is afraid of his leash, afraid of new people and dogs, afraid of loud noises.

Is this just because it's a new environment?

A couple days ago he was eager to explore the house, but now he seems to think of the couch as his "safe zone" and won't leave without us coaxing him.

What would cause this behavior regression?

I found a puppy about two years ago on the road. I took him in and he has always had a mean streak in him. He has had the rabbies shot. He growls and snaps, but never has bitten anyone. I tried disciplining the dog and it seems to have made things worse. He doesn't trust me at all now. I'm pretty much set on having him laid down to sleep. I have a young child in the home with me and it scares us. Could obedience school help? Could I do something that would regain his trust in me and become a nice, sweet dog? Or should I just lay him down to sleep? I really wouldn't like giving him away because he could turn on that person. And I would hate the thought of him being in a gas chamber at the pound. I also refuse to take him for a "ride" because I wouldn't want him having searching for food, shelter, and such. He's a very small dog, most likely a mix of terrier and jack russel. He's muscular and quite fast.

My chihuahua had to have a cesarean today after a long labor, when we got home she laid down with the puppies but looked at them as if they were aliens. After the drugs wore off she rejected them, she refuses to lay with them, when I force her, she growls at them and even attempts to bite them. I called my vet and he told me it was common and couldn't give me any advice on how to make her want to care for them, he just said to make sure they feed off of her for the first 24 hours, then they would need to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours. I am willing to do this, but I wish she would be a mother to these little guys. Thanks in advance for your advise.

We are about to start to attempt crate trainging our Yorkie. He is 12 wks old. I have a crate that I used for my German Shepherd. Its a standard size big dog crate. I was wondering if the size of the crate matters when crate training. Also, does anyone have any tips, its been 8 years since I crate trained my German Shepherd, and he was SIMPLE to train. The yorkie seems to pee or poop on the go and keeps on bouncing.

I want to buy something I can attach to my existing wood fence that bends into the yard. My dog jumps the fence, I don't want to use an electrical solution. Anybody have anything like this? If so, where can I buy?

My 8 mo. old Weimaraner weighs 52 lbs. and follows me around all the time. When I get home from anywhere he jumps on me for at least 5 minutes. He doesn't do this to anyone else. I have bruises all over my arms from him. I know he is not being mean becuase his little tail is wagging so hard while he is doing this. I have tried to stop him by raising my knee, but this doesn't work. What else can I do?

My new next door neighbors just got there teenage sons a pitbull for Christmas. I have a three year old daughter who I went through great trouble to have, lost her twin sister in the womb, and was born premature weighing only 1lb 9oz and spent 3mts in the hospital, then a year later went in for open heart surgery. I love her more than life itself and only want to be proactive in case the dog does attack someday, what I need to do to save her. I have no malice for any dog, but knowing the reputation of the breed, want to be fully prepared for the possibility. I have search the internet, and only fond one web site that gives me some answers. I specified the pitbull, because that's what is next door. For those who think I am ignorant, maybe you should have the full story before you judge me and go through what I have already had to endure. My only goal is to protect my child from potential harm. Again I ask, if it attacks what can I do to save my child!!!!
