Yes I understand that is bothers allot of people but it is done! When people that their unwanted animals to a rendering factory this is how they make their money by selling the meat to dog and cat food factory's!
If you want to make sure your food is of what you would call people quality meats then get a better dog food!
Nutro
Avodrem
Nature Receipt
These are just a few that only use humane grade food to make their dog food!! And yes that would mean that horse would be off the menu!
You would be surprised at what is in grocery store dog food! Good rule of thumb If your pet food comes from the grocery store the food is garbage!!!

Horse meat is one of the better things they put in dog food. They don't raise horses for meat, this comes from horses who die, so why not use the meat. The meat is healthy and lean, in many societies people eat it. It also is legal by the way, nothing wrong with it.

Horse meat is high in protien and low in fat...why not include it in a dog's diet? Or your own, for that matter?
Horse meat for sale for human consumption is allowed in many countries, and if you sit down for a horse steak in Canada...it may be from horses raised for meat in Texas.
Horses are an animal of prey, meaning-they are lower in the food chain and meant to be eaten. They eat grass (they do not hunt) they have a vulnerable blind spot of 3 feet (they have eyes on the side of their head like a mouse, rat, etc) they are hunted by animals with claws and big teeth. I say, let's eat em!
Life is not only about pork, poultry and beef. There is cheval (horse meat) venison (deer meat) shark, alligator and ostritch (yum on all, btw) squirrel, possum (never had em, would totally try them)..bugs...the list goes on.
I mean, there are all KINDS of things to eat, why focus on the horse? Because they have big beautiful brown eyes? So do cows, horses just run faster.

I have yet to see a dog food label that says it has horse meat in it.
I feed a high quality dry dog food but it has only chicken meat in it.
There are no mystery meat sources in it.
I would not feed any dog food that did not specify what type of meat it was using for protein.
Most of the horses slaughtered in this county, US, are not used in dog food they are sold to Europe for human consumption. It would be hard for a dog food compay to pay that much per pound for dog food.

My husband's company makes the food that later is packaged by the different food manufacturers as their "unique" blend. No horse meat is involved. What brand are you referring to?

Because it's cheap meat. It's not illegal or bad for dogs - Left to their own devices (E.g. in the wild) they would eat any animal to survive.
Feed your dog a high-quality, dry dog food.

Some people send their horses to slaughter. I don't know why. Then the people at the slaughter house have nothing to do with the carcasses. So dog's eat dead deer and rabbit, so they decided to put it in dog food, how else would they use it? It's kinda sad.

It's not just horse meat. They also use euthanized shelter animals, dead zoo animals and roadkill. That is why I make my own dog and cat food.

I have MANY more websites just look around and you will be amazed at what they are doing.

Because it's cheap and lean. Not all dogfoods have it, but I know (having been a zookeeper) that they use it in zoo carnivore diets and the predominant meat.
