I have a mutt, I believe him to have border collie, husky and some other stuff in him. He is a huge nerd, (my favorite kind of dog), He is very sweet, loving and friendly. I can take him anywhere, he's always the 'main dog' at the dog park. He gets along with all the dogs and the people there, when I walk him, he's friendly with the people out. But at home... Elroy is quite the 'bodygaurd', over time he has gotten more 'protective' towards people coming over. At first it was just strangers, but lately it's been to just about everybody who doesn't live here, except kids. I want him to continue to protect and alert me when somebody comes over, but aggressive barking at my mom is just uncalled for! He is an outdoor dog and I think he's about 6 or 7 years old, we've had him for 4 years. I do think he was abused prior to us getting him, he is much more aggressive towards men, it even took him a while to warm up to my husband. Like I said, it's only at home, he's like this.

I am going to Mexicao soon on vacation and taking my dog, Bowser Farnsworth, III with me, he does not understand Spanish and I was wondering if dogs communicate in a universal language or will dogs in Mexico bark in Spanish. This is Bowser's first vacation south of the border and I want to make it as easy for him as possible. In Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and England he did well, but the dogs there I assume bark in English, albeit the Kings.

I have a 4month old puppy, jack russell, very cute and lovely. she has a chew which is great as she is teething, my partner went to stroke her tonight while she was chewing and she growled and threatened him quite badly back, she did it again so I immedialtely smacked her and said 'no' at the same time, I took the bone away. I don't want her to be proctective over her food/bones etc. how do I over come this problem?

why do people like these yappy little rats? they carry them around, they spoil them, and these things think they can get away with murder. i love dogs but these things are annoying little rats . and i do blame some of the owners for allowing some of these dogs to act the way they do. i also blame the celebs who make it look like it is cool to own a little rat

My greyhound (this is my second) has been deemed by the county as a dangerous dog because she bit someone...pretty badly. I wasn't here at the time. She is normally passive and sweet as they all are but I have witnessed her snap so I now keep her separated from house guests. Anyone else with problems?

My girlfriend and I have had a female Chihuahua puppy for two weeks now. The puppy is very smart and has adapted to life with us well, She is actually my first dog and I am very protective of her. At night we have found out that it is much easier to leave her in the bathroom at night because it includes her bed w/ blanket, water and food bowls nearby and her training pad and litter box. She seems pretty set in there, but sometimes at night she whines for a couple of minutes then goes to sleep. We occasionally check up on her during the night and she is either still asleep or just in her bed chillin. What bothers me is that we turn the light off when she is in there, so is she ok? Is it ok to leave a puppy in a dark room at night? I don't want to do anything to her that might traumatize her.

My chihuahua has a very annoying habit of taking food from her bowl and eating it on the living room carpet. She will take the food there, eat it, trot back to the kitchen to get another bite of food and then take it back to living room to eat it. Why can't she eat the food at the bowl like other dogs do? How can I stop her from doing this? There are food bits all over the carpet. When I yell at her about it she will drop the food and look pitiful. I tried to put a little fence around her and the food bowl but she will just sit there looking pitiful again for a very long time and not touch her food until I can't take it anymore and lift the fence. Then she will start to eat.
