My greyhound (this is my second) has been deemed by the county as a dangerous dog because she bit someone...pretty badly. I wasn't here at the time. She is normally passive and sweet as they all are but I have witnessed her snap so I now keep her separated from house guests. Anyone else with problems?

I've got 3 and have fostered lots of greyhounds and never had one with even the slightest tendencies towards people aggression. I know a female who is pretty off the wall because she was abused in her first home and you need to be very, very careful never to corner her or she attacks to protect herself. Other than that she's fine, but couldn't be trusted with young kids.

Does your dog feel cornered or threatened when she snaps? Be best to either keep her muzzled if you're unsure of her reaction, but let her be with people to give her a chance to overcome this. People have to be told to stay clear - let her have her space. If not, she'll need to be kept away from people - and just maybe, she'd prefer that.

No actually. There are greyhounds that tend to want to chase prey more, but to be hoenst this is the first time I have ever heard of one hurting a human, and I've dealt with 100's of them.

What was the person doing at the time. I'd be willing to bet she was being threatened or hurt or scared by the person.

I have the same problem with my grey. He has bitten 4 people (fortunately, only one actually broke the skin) in the 3 years I've had him. He is very protective of me on our property, but sweet as pie when off the property. He is very well socialized with other dogs, so there's no worry there. I have put up several "Beware of Dog" signs to warn people who come up to the fence or gate. I'm very careful when introducing him to houseguests he hasn't met.
My advice is to put up lots of signs so you don't get sued, and keep her on a leash!

I think greyhounds are so pretty....I also feel sorry for them the way they race them then abandon them...It might that she has been treated unkindly before you got her.Usually dogs that bite feel as though they are potecting themselves or she might be trying to protect you..I am glad that you got her because they would have probably destoyed her had you not taken her.I think she has probably been picked at before.

I agree with the other poster, she must have been scared. I have been around all different types of Sighthounds for years and they are not generally people aggressive.
