I have two dogs (One Female and one Male) They are litter mates, and look like Black Labs but they are really just mutts. They will be two in March. Well they live outside and they are just..VERY thin. You can't really see their ribs because they have a lot of hair, but when you pet them or rub them you can feel their ribs and backbone. I feed them two large coffee cans of dog food a day, and there is usually a little bit left. They have had their shots and I worm them regularly. I feel so bad at how thin they are though. Do you have any suggestions? I have tried to feed them puppy food or food with high protein to try to get them gain weight but it doesn't seem to help. They are not aggressive with food when I am around them so it's not like something is taking the food away. I just am worried, they seem to be healthy but should I go ahead and take them to the vet or am I just over-reacting? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

if so...what was your experience with them? did they exhibit typical husky characteristics (i.e. jump fences, dig, howl alot, stubborn etc.)?

Not everyone wants a dog to show, some just want one to love. They're all dogs, just different "races" if you will.

I adopted my dog 10 years ago and had her spayed right away but now and then she still mounts a stuff animal and assumes the mating position of a male dog and try to .... that poor thing. Why? Is that normal or should I stop her?

I bought my poodle from a breeder when he was 9 wks old. When his testes did not appear I rang the breeder to tell him and ask his advice. He said that this does happen from time to time and I shouldn't be concerned. He also advised me against having him desexed as this would be invasive surgery as the testies are inside and not really nessesary as he would not be able to impregnate a female. He is a good little dog but he does have a tendancy to get very excited and anxious around other dogs particularly females. Sometimes he has an erection that won't go down for quiet sometime and he can't move until it does. I worry that he will take off if the opportunity was there. What are the pros & cons of desexing an older dog. I have also heard that testes that don't drop down can sometimes become cancer. I just want what's best for his health and state of mind. Can anyone advise me on what i should do

I have two bassets. One is nearly three and a b*tch and the other is 7 months and a dog. I had the girl from a pup and she became very well toilet trained. I have a dog flap so she always lets herself out. Then I got the boy who I had since 5 months old so they've been together about 2 - 3 months. He wasn't toilet trained and peed everywhere, but then he started using the dog flap. But when I get in from work I find old drying pee stains everywhere and have been assuming its him. Then yesterday the girl peed on the carpet right in front of me! I couldn't believe it, there'spee everywhere and I never ctach who's doing it but now am thinking its her. Why is she suddenly doing this? Is it to cover his scent or is it as she's seen him do it she thinks its ok. Its doing my head in, my house stinks and I keep constantly cleaning the carpets with a hired carpet cleaner. She knows to go out, so toilet training her is useless, so why does she do it? Please can anyone help????

Which dog food brand is better for my labrador retriever.... Authority Harvest Baked, or Royal Canin: Labrador Retriever... I'm just being honest here, but I really DON'T care about what kind of food your dog is on or what you think is best. Yes, yes, yes, I know about the better/best brands out there, Innovo, Solid Gold, California Natural, Wellness, Karma, etc. but they're too expensive and my local Petco/Petsmart don't sell them, and no store in my area sell 'em! I really do want the best for my dog, so I just now switched him from Royal Canin:Labrador Retriever to Authority Harvest Baked. Was that a good choice?

I got my puppy about 9 months ago. He's a German Shephard/Lab mix. I have never loved a dog this much before. He is very loving and loyal and is just the best dog ever. I don't even think of him as a dog. He's like my son almost. I used to see people treat their dogs like that and think they were crazy and I've finally found a pet that I treat like that. I buy him lots of treats and toys, but I also maintain discipline with him. Is it wrong to spoil your dog?

How much would you pay for a dog? If so, what breed?
Is $750 too much for a Miniature Pinscher red nose with AKC papers? she comes from a long line of champions MinPins although i dont want her for breeding I just want a good looking pet with not much possibility of breed health issues you get from dirty kennels. the pup is 8wks and has her first shot along with heart worm treatment.
