good step - the vet
you need the pills in
at this point - I would force the pills - placing far back in mouth and hold muzzle until he swallows.. it will be tough on both of you - but this is important!
lots of petting and cuddling to calm him afterwards.
Later when he is eating - a tiny piece of meat should hide the pill.
Next - you need fluids into this pup
you will need to cook chicken or ground beef and make a weak broth
that is in addition to the water bowl.
measure the fluids - so you know how much you put down.
(to check for dehydration softly pinch his skin on the shoulder or back - when released the skin should return to normal fairly quickly! to see what I mean - pinch the back of your hand. )
next take the chicken or beef you made the broth from ...
take a small portion and add one of the following ( you are making only a tiny batch! less than 1 cup total. if he eats - then feed again in 2 hours)
1 - cooked rice
2 - oatmeal
3 - cream of wheat
these will all act as binder - helping ease the diareah
and good protein.
he will probably only eat a nibble - but every nibble helps!
invest in a tube of NutraCal.!! High calorie supplement - invaluable for sick pets of all sorts. Carried by most feed stores ( Tractor Farm Supply - & pet shops?)
just like a tube of toothpaste - except brown jell. a 1/2 inch (squeeze it out on your finger ) and then smear in his lips.
he should clean his face.
I would check into a few jars of baby food - meats. if your pup has a 'clean' thing - taking a bit and smearing on his paw .... he should want to 'clean up'. excellent way to get protein in!
when they are sick - we need to trick them.
BEST LUCK with your pup

When I have to give my dogs pills I either put it in the back of his mouth at the throat or I put it in a very small piece of a hot dog. Did your vet tell you you can give the dog Pepto-Bismol for the diarrhea? You can. It is easier to give the Pepto pills instead of the liquid. A vet told me many years ago if a dog is sick and has diarrhea and vomiting to fry some hamburger (drain the grease) and mix it with cooked white rice. I've always had success with it.I hope your dog is feeling much better and up running and playing real soon. Good luck.

Is the reason you cant get pills down because of the vomiting or you just don't know how? If its because he isn't eating and you cant slip it in something then......Open dogs mouth holding the upper part (muzzle) put pill as far back down the throat as possible to the point you think it will gag, then hold dogs mouth shut.

If you drank poison, would you come here for a home remedy or go to the doctor? I don't know if your dog is still alive, but even if he survived, it is possible he suffered some organ damage or internal burns. Only a full checkup will alert you to any problems. So you see, you really saved nothing by not going to the Vet. Shame. I'd recommend pet insurance. Anyone who has a pet needs this.

Sounds like a sick little boy. Try wrapping the pill in peanut butter or cheeze whiz. If he won't eat this, gently place the pill at the back of his throat and massage his neck under his chin. This will stimulate his need to swallow. Hope this helps. A follow up trip to the vet may be in order.

I work in a Vet Office and see this a lot you can try anything from cheese to ice cream to get him to take his pills. If that doesn't work then you need to shove them in to the back of his throat. As far as diarrhea and vomiting goes fasting him for 24 hours is good for that then reintroduce him to small meals, boiled hamburger is good to try. I would say if he doesn't eat with in 24 hours contact your vet.

Mix the medicine with food. If you're giving the dog dry food just drop the pill inside the bowl and cover it with kibbles.
The other way to do it is to open the dog's mouth, put the pill as far inside it's mouth as possible, hold the mouth closed and massage the throat, that will make it swallow.

You may need to just force the meds down his throat. Stick it way back in his throat and then gently hold his mouth closed until you see he has swallowed. In any case, it can't hurt just to call the vet and tell them about this new problem.
Hope he's better soon.

Try the trick of prying open the mouth and inserting it down his throat, close and hold his jaws shut and rub his throat. It will go down because he will have to swallow. Been there done that! It he won't drink use and dropper to give him a little water but not much he may throw it back up but you don't want him to get dehydrated.

Make him some chicken and rice. Maybe if it's warm he will eat it. I have worked for a Vet and many Breeders, thats what they would recommend and do.
