we got my puppy off puppy chow and on regular food after 9 months. Some dog food says right on the bag when to do it. But when you are ready, be sure to mix the new food in gradually (like ¼ cup at a time) so his little stomach can get used to it.

I feed my dogs Purina Pro Plan. Finish off the bag you have now and switch to dog chow.

For the first year at least. Then slowly switch to adult food by slowly adding it in to the puppy chow until eventually there is no puppy chow added. This way it helps his body adjust slowly.

he is probably ready for it now. just start adding it in a little bit at a time. we started my puppy on dog chow at 4 1/2 months.

good luck and have fun with your new dog!

You should feed him puppy chow for the first year.

Start feeding adult food now. Large breed dogs are prone to hip displasia and there is too much protein and calcium in puppy food. grow your dog slowly. You should also switch to a high quality food. It cost more initially but it ends up being cheaper because you feed less.

The vet I work for usually suggests around a year of age before changing a puppy or kitten to adult food.

You can start feeding him adult dog food anytime--after six months of age, they should have adult food. Be sure to feed him the amount specified on the bag, and if you give treats, feed him less dry food.

He should have a covering of fat over his ribs, but you should still be able to feel the ribs. When you look at him from above and from the side, his abdomen should be narrower than his chest.

as a puppy they need high protien and fat content so puppy food is good until around 8 to 10 months they you want to lower the fat content but if he is very active keep the high protien but he is a golden retriever so you can keep it at moderate levels i have a bull terrier very active i keep him on a high fat high protien diet and my bull dog is much less active moderate protein very low fat and i would recommend a premium dog food i use nutro a little bit more expensive but alot better for him less by product and more real meats and vedgetables
