I enter their room and they stop crying and go back to sleep. What should I do? MaMa is still nursing a little and they are eating puppy food. My husband is ready to throw them out. HELP

Normally pups at that age are still on a limited feeding schedule, especially the smaller breeds. She should still have milk but they will need puppy chow too as they have teeth. Are you sure they are getting enough to eat, especially in evening? I highly recommend full bowls at all times so can eat as they need to. Their little tummies don't hold much at a time. She was normally nursing them every few hours so the time clock is "stuck". You could try warming up some milk to moisten the dry food and make a mush for a late nite meal. Kinda like a baby that can't yet go all nite without a bottle. May still need more milk than she has!

I assume she is with them most of time, especially at nite. They still need the nurturing. I hate to see pups be taken away from mom too early and a few more weeks is vital for really healthy pups, especially small breed.

The problem should correct itself in about 2 more weeks. Just be certain they are not waking because they want to eat. Takes them a bit to get off the every 2 hr. feedings they were used to. Can you close a door, soft radio noise, etc so you and hubbie aren't awakened every 2 hours?? As long as you know they are safe, warm and fed there is no need to get up and check. They will be fine. They are like kids. They cry and you come running. May be starting a bad habit/behaviour that is not what you want, nor would a new owner, if you are not keeping all 3. The momma dog can take care of any needs throught the nite. She just may need a little help with warm milk for her and her babies.

I hope the info will help. We get a lot of newborn litters with no mom and have to bottle feed every 2 hours or take over for the mom if sick, unable to nurse. And it can be hard to know if mom's milk is sufficient for their nutritional needs. I hope she was on puppy chow when pregnant or is now. She needs the extra nutrtion. At this stage the pups normally don't cry except for the momma or hungry.

WE HAD A PEEKAPOO AND A SHIHTZU. THEY ARE VERY AFFECTIONATE. I KNOW RIGHT NOW IT'S TOUGH BUT THEY WILL GROW UP AND OUT OF THAT STAGE. THEY ARE JUST LIKE BABIES. LOTS OF ATTENTION AND AFFECTION IS WHAT THEY NEED. ENJOY THEM I'LL BET THEY'RE ADORABLE. YOU CAN THROW THEM MY WAY ANY DAY!

He's used to having someone with him (his mom, brothers,or sisters) maybe getting him a companion would help? EDIT: Our lab puppy used to cry at night, but he stopped after 2 nights of being ignored.. Also my 7 week old chihuahua puppy cried during the night when I first got him, but when I started playin with him a LOT ( pretty much wearing him out) before it was time for bed he stopped and slept the whole night.. (i only did this for 2 nights) and now he sleeps all the way through the night without a single peep, except for the occassional sleep talking lol EDIT#2: Have you considered letting him sleep at the foot of your bed??

Puppies like heartbeat. try to keep mom in the room with them. If thats not possible Put a watch in a teddy bear and stick it where they sleep, that usally helps and it gives them the impression that mom is with them

Good Luck

Move their crate or pen into your room. Puppies don't like to be alone. If they are in the room with you where they can see you when they fall asleep they should sleep better.

Mix a teabag full of Chamomile Tea in their last feeding of the day..
Just dump it out of the teabag and stir it into any soft food..And it will relax them..give your husband a cup of the brewed tea, and he will sleep like a baby!
All grocery stores will carry it iin the herbal teas.
This remedy was given to me by my vet, many years ago, when we couldn't get any sleep because of a Doberman litter.. I have blessed that old vet many times since!

Try putting them in a crate with stuffed animals and under the stuffed toys put a ticking clock. Also remove there water 2 hours before you put them in there crate.

you should let your puppies sleep in the same room as you.
you should be with them at all times.
then they know that you will always be with hiim and care for them
if they start crying during the night, then you should cuddle with them.
good luck
xoxo

Nothing much you can do...i'm surpriesed that mamma dog doesnt keep them calm thru the night? Maybe she isnt nursing them properly and you need to start feeding them puppy milk ...maybe they are hungry...but aside from that they are like babies and wake up at all crazy hours of teh night (but i do suspect that mama dog isnt giving them sufficient food...maybe they are getting to the ag ethat they are starting to scratch and bite into her and she is not willign to feed as much?)
