I adopted my dog 10 years ago and had her spayed right away but now and then she still mounts a stuff animal and assumes the mating position of a male dog and try to .... that poor thing. Why? Is that normal or should I stop her?

The simple answer is that she does it because it feels good. Really there is nothing to worry about.

Thank you for being responsible and having her spayed! I know smaller breeds/toys are notorious for humping, spayed or not.

It's not going to hurt anything. Some just get a wild hair with stuff animals and go at it. I have a chi that does only when in heat as a rule. The vet is holding off on her spay because of her weight(too small) so we keep her safe and endure the humping for about a week or so. The other girls here think she is nutz.

Yes, it is normal and is not hurting anything. As long as you don't mind I'd simply ignore it or remove the toy for awhile until she calms down. At her age let her have her fun!

I believe your dog is still humping stuffed animals now and again because she is experiencing mother-child separation. I believe this because she may have been spayed to earlier which didn't allow her to have a litter of pups.

I believe that yes you should try to wean her off of humping stuffed animals. A way you can do that is to play games with her for a few hours each day to take her mind away from humping stuffed animals.

Whether they are spayed or not animals still have the mating feelings. All dogs hump - even females. It's some sort of genetic memory - they all do it. My dog was neutered very young but he still tries to hump our pillows - then he looks so embarassed if we catch him

I had a gay dog too once, she even pee'd like a boy. My vet said this was completely normal. Give your vet a ring in the morning and ask for advice if you're concerned.
