why do cats eat their own kittens? my cousin has a cat who gave birth to three kittens but today she had eaten one of them and only the head remained! why would a cat do that? could it be related to the fact that my cousin has been picking up the kittens quite often since they were born?? Please explain, thanks

He went at 5pm last night and we havent seen him since. He's an indoor cat and has only been in the garden a few times. This time he climbed over the back fence. The thing is our house backs onto farmers fields with a long grassy track directly behind our garden. Im not sure if he will be able to find his way back because the weeds are quite dense. Hes been castrated. What do you think the chances are of him coming back? I cant stop crying, thinking of what might have happened. I miss him so much, he was my baby.

I have two fairly shy cats. On a few occasions, my fiance and I have hired cat sitters to visit with our cats daily while we are on vacation. However, the cat sitters tell us that our cats hide from them and refuse to accept any kind of love from them. My fiance and I will be wed at my parents' house in two months. We will therefore be staying with my parents (about six hours drive away) for about three weeks. I'm worried my cats would be really freaked out by a temporary move to my parents house with us, but that they will also be really stressed and lonely with cat sitters for such a long period. Would it be more stressful for our cats to come with us to my parents house or to stay at home with cat sitters whom they fear?

She is 5 weeks old, her litter mate and her mother are fine. She has a moist sounding cough but otherwise is very playful and appears normal, what could this be? I live on a farm and have a lot of other outside cats, but the mom and babies have been inside since the babies were born. Any suggestions? Also how can I get it to go away?

The other day I noticed my tabby, Mattie, had a horrible looking sore on the side of her face down by her jaw. I believe that it was on one of her scent glands. I could be wrong though. It was about the size of my thumb and had liquid under it. Later she scratched it so much it broke and began to ooze puss and blood. I've done my best to patch her up myself but I dont know if I need to take her to the vet or not. Will it continue to get more infected if I dont take her? What should I do to help her and what should I not do?

My cat has had a cold for a while now he sneezes every so often and he has a little bit of this snot stuff coming out of his eyes but its better than before. He eats normally and is active he is about 2 years old. I dont want to take him to the vet unless its an absolute must because we are tight on money right now. Recently i have heard that some cats die from colds is this true? I know for people the medicine really only helps from the symtoms and the cold goes away on its own. Any onfo would be greatly apreciated. Thanks=)

My cat was playing with my fiances fishing rod this morning and she got the hook in her paw. My fiance has a week stomach and he couldn't get the hook out and our Vets office is closed untill wednesday. Our friend came up and removed the hook, but it was dirty. It had already been in dirty water and had fish caught on it. I put some rubbing alcohol on the wound but, i want to know if there is anything else i should do to make sure it doesn't get infected.

Yesterday afternoon I adopted an 8-week-old border terrier puppy. I have two cats. One is exceptionally mellow and is proving very good with the puppy, the other is being 'territorial' and circling around the puppy prepared to attack it at the slightest opportunity. The reaction by this cat is a bit surprising to me because she is extremely friendly and playful around other cats and people, whereas the mellow cat is normally the more standoffish of the two. In any event, I know it will take time and this is 'normal' and so on, but I was hoping to get some advice on how to expedite the warm-up process so that I don't have to watch them together 24/7 and worry about the cat scratching his eye or something. The other issue is that I don't want the puppy to associate this cat with such a negative experience because border terriers aren't known to be that great with cats to begin with and I don't want him harming her when he's older and larger. At the moment, he just whimpers!

I know I should worm my 10-month old cat every three months, but we only got her a few weeks ago. The people she came from had only had her temporarily, so there's really no way to tell when she was last wormed. I haven't seen any symptoms, but I've read that it's best to treat worms BEFORE you see any, regardless. So my question is, if I choose to worm her, and she HAS actually been wormed in the last three months without my knowing, is there any chance that the medication will harm her?

I was reading about how if the bowls are to small the cat may not eat or drink water from it because the whiskers touch the side of the dish and that is an annoyance to them. Do cats prefer bigger bowls that they can fit their whole head into without having to bring their whiskers back? Or does it not matter?

My cat recently 'moved' to my next door neighbour's. This is probably because i work and they are retired, so i cant really compete for the cat's attention. I didnt ask them to take in my cat, they just did, and made no effort to shoo it away etc. I wondered if anyone reading this might know if my neighbours are breaking any kind of law by doing this, does i count as stealing? They say that the cat chose them, but i cant believe that. I know this is a weird question, but i just want to know the naswer so i know where i stand with them.
Thanks
P.S. I am in UK, so only English laws apply

She licks obsessively. She's otherwise healthy - very full of beans and character, even more so than usual (she's 8 years old and a short-haired domestic). But I think she might have a mite or something. What's the best product - anybody have any similar issues?

I found a cat that had been hit by a car today. She was still warm, her mouth was open and her bowels were beginning to leak.

I became hysterical (I have 4 cats of my own) and imedietely got a blanket from my car and wrapped her up and took her to the house she was in front of, which happened to be the right one. Once I got there I talked to her owner and tried to do CPR on her but it was too late.

If I had done cpr on the road could I have saved her?

I feel terrible.
