He went at 5pm last night and we havent seen him since. He's an indoor cat and has only been in the garden a few times. This time he climbed over the back fence. The thing is our house backs onto farmers fields with a long grassy track directly behind our garden. Im not sure if he will be able to find his way back because the weeds are quite dense. Hes been castrated. What do you think the chances are of him coming back? I cant stop crying, thinking of what might have happened. I miss him so much, he was my baby.

Cats will do this - especially males - has he been neutered? If not it may take a few days. I would definitely call for him - drive around the area and put up a few fliers with his picture and name. And call the area animal control and rescue agencies to register his description and info in case he gets picked up. I have been thru this so many times I can't count. And even when my cat Merlin was gone for over 13 months I found him - in the very next subdivision not 4 blocks as the crow flies. He was an exception to the rule that cats always know their way home! Look and listen and tell anyone who may be able to help. And a can of tuna on the porch can't hurt. Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers! You will get him home again :-)

The same thing happend to me yesterday, except it was a rabbit. Cats know who they love, no matter what lives behind you. All you have to worry about is a hawk getting him, other cats, or dog. he will eventually come searching for you since he is castrated, he naturally doesn't want to look for a mate, so it won't be too long. What I would do is place his favorite treats, or food outside your doorstep, in the front and back.

We have a cat that is a male, and he's never been an outsidde cat. But, a few years ago, we lived in an aprtment, and he snuck out the front door at night. WE were on the second floor, and all the doors and everything looked the same. at 2 a.m. he came back meowing at the door.

Generally it is the male cats that go wondering around. When females go missing they are either trapped somewhere like in a tree with a dog stalking them so they can't come down or someone stole them mistaking them for strays. My one female cat went missing for 3 weeks because she jumped in a friends car without anyone noticing. She got out of the car at the friends house and came home but because it was so far it took a while. Sometimes they get run over without you knowing. It will be difficult to lock your cat in the house because she is used to being let outside. My new cat is an indoor purebred Siamese because I didn't want anybody to steal her. But she has been kept inside since kitten days. Good luck!

My heart goes out to you. I know how you feel. My 11 year old kitty who has never missed a meal is missing this morning and I am fearing the worst. She is such a good pal, I realize how much I have always loved her. I hope she shows up. Usually she does not leave the property, so this is weird. I even checked on the roof. Anyway, I wish you and your kitty good luck, too. Aloha

She's back!!!!!!!!! She does have an injured foot so it might be a trip to the Vet for her tomorrow. She hates going to the vet.

Cats normally have a good sense of when to return home. They are pretty good on their own. If he doesnt come back in a few days, then its time to put up lost pet posters.

Your cat will come back to you
They are self-sufficient, and have senses that you and I don't possess. Your cat will find his way home when he is tired of the game he's playing now. Don't worry.

Put his favorite foods around your house and inside.Keep an eye for him. He is eventually going to come back because of the hunger and the urge to see his wonderful owner.

Male cats have a tendency to roam. My cats do it all the time. Sometimes they stay gone for days at a time.
