Yes, cats can see themselves in the mirror, however, to the cat, it's not themselves they see but another cat. Cats can't distinguish their own reflections & their vision is only in black & white, therefore, the cat that they see looking back at them in the mirror is seen to be as another cat.
Many times, you'll see them swat at the mirror or brill up their fur when they see their own reflections. This is mainly with kittens &/or young cats, the older cats could really care less at their age.

No it's not true. They have eyes, they can see what's in the mirror.
You'll find that if you try to make cats look in a mirror they'll look everywhere BUT the mirror. This is because what they see doesn't match up with what they smell -they see a person and a cat, but they don't smell it, so as far as they're concerned it doesn't exist. Cat's sense of smell is important to them.
Kittens often attack their reflection, thinking it's another cat. They haven't learned yet!

Cats can see themselfs in the mirror and sometimes they love it. My aunts cat will sit in front of the mirror and clean herself and then look at the great job she has done and admire herself. She is very funny to watch.

I know they can see into it also see their reflection because I had a floor mirror and my cat would spend stretches of time looking into it, crouch and approach it, sniff it and (it leaned against the wall) eventually look behind it to try and find that "other feline" she was stalking!
Sounds like an urban legend to me!
Most cats are probably just smart enough to know that 2-dimensional thing isn't worth their time or interest.

Think about that logically. How would it be possible for cats to be incapable of seeing themselves in the mirror? Are they vampires? :-P
Some cats choose not to look at mirrors, but cats definitely do see reflections.

Yes they do see themselves in the mirrow. My cat will sit there in front of the mirror and just look at herself and rub the mirror and then she will walk away.

Only vampire cats can't see themselves in mirrors. They also shouldn't go out in direct sunlight...

No, I had a cat that recognized the reflection. He thought it was another cat and hissed at it.
